Q&A: Billy Corgan and Jessica Simpson Didn't Collaborate After All

It is with pride that we point to this week's print feature, another segment of Christine Borges' lengthy interview with Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan. Ahead of the band's visit to Revolution in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, Corgan proved to be a far more gracious and fascinating interview than many of his contemporaries.

Some fans of County Grind and/or SP purists might recall that last week's entry, which dealt with the band's early years, caused much hand-wringing and beard-twirling by several commenters when she asked Corgan about using the "Radiohead" model of free distribution.

Sample comment: "Sorry Christine but the question was laugable [sic] to any real Pumkins [sic] fan. A popular Pumkins fan blog links this article from its sight [sic] only by posting the radiohead question... That should clue you in on how laugable the question was."

Well, if the fans were choking on their Mountain Dew last time, let's hope that a little clarification on the Jessica Simpson situation can similarly entertain.

What about collaborations? I heard rumors that Jessica Simpson was working with you on the album. Is she on any of the tracks?

No. That's just like [laughs]. That's like insanity [laughs]. No.

When I heard that she might be on the new album, I got a little worried, because I pictured her voice with traditional Smashing Pumpkins guitar riffs.

No, no, no. [laughs]. No. She's... No. So far there's been no collaborations, but at some point, I'd like to. It just hasn't worked out that way yet because I've just been so busy.

Fantastic. Read more about the foundation of Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, Corgan's motivation for starting with small markets, and why he's comfortable playing the Batman song again right here.

Smashing Pumpkins, with Kill Hannah and Bad City. 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $44. Call 954-727-0950, or click here.
