103.5 The Beat is No More; Spanish Station Super X Takes Over as of Noon Today

If you are a big fan of 103.5 The Beat and their hip-hop and R&B format, you may have noticed something different when you turned on the radio this afternoon. The Beat's yet another in a slew of stations to be taken over by Spanish radio.

Now replaced by "103.5 Super X" as of noon today, they already have a fully functioning site, and promises to play Spanish hits from the '80s, '90s, and today. That sounds an awful lot like 97.3 The Coast's old slogan, doesn't it?

"Based on the South Florida population being over 50 percent Hispanic and growing, adding a second Spanish-language format to the cluster provides us the best opportunity to mirror the South Florida market," Clear Channel Radio/Miami President/Market Manager Brian Olson says. "The addition of 103.5 Super X will strategically complement Mega 94.9. The combination of these two radio stations will provide an unparalleled reach of Hispanic adults 18-54."

Any guesses on which (if any) station will be next to undergo a transformation?

I Don't Listen to radio much, I'm usually listening to my cd's, but when I do I would like to know that the station that I usually would tune in to would be there. I think that in this day and age that the people who listens to this station should have a say about what they want to hear I'm one of those people and I want 103.5 the beat with Steve Harvey and the morning show back.

I KNOW AMERICA IS A FREE COUNTRY FOR ALL BUT THE NATIONS LANGUAGE IS ENGLISH AND EVERY NATIONALITY SHOULD BE MADE TO SPEAK IT WRITE IT AND LEARN IT. what kinda shit is this? This is real bull shit!!!!!!!! Every morning I look forward to listening to the Steve Harvey morning show. As listeners we won't aware of the cancelation of the station. Clear channel didn't think about their listeners as a whole. We were not given any notice of the cancelation and I refues to listen to another language that I don't speak. This is America and the first language is ENGLISH. There are many other places you could of chosen to place this new station. Just think of the customers you have lost!!!
Unfortunately you cannot do anything about this but call the radio station everyday and complain. If we all continue to call them constantly and don;t allow them to be able to receive calls, then maybe they will understand. Also this is what happens when the white man gets greedy and needs more money.
Does anybody know if there is something we can do about this? Who can we contact? This is such total crap.
How come they are catering to the spanish community? What happened to the island people? Do we not count for the population that makes up South Florida? We don't need another spanish station.
This is mest up. I'm latin and I'm sorry but I'm not agree. There's a lot spanish station to listeng...I love the bet. We have already 4 spanish station we don't need another one. The bet was one of the most popular in inglish. And I miss that. We can't keep taking over of everything. This is united states. I don't have nothing against of my own people but come on. so many comments, I hope that everyone who is complaining actually send a leter/note/email - hell even a smoke signal to the idiots who changed the radio station. As one person said "money talks" if no one listens to the new station, then they will have to change what they have done. When I came to this country 22 years ago I was excited to live here in Miami, however I really dont feel the same way anymore. Since the immigration of so many spanish speakers, the country has been catering to them. CUBANS can come to this country off the boat and get food stamps, welfare, and a check each month without question. However, when the Haitian people come they are returned to a country that will kill them for trying to escape. This change in radio station feels just like this example. Cubans dont need to speak English, because they are allowed to work without speaking not even a word of english. I am not racist but this is another example of racisim at its best. I really miss turning on my radio at full blast in the morning to hear what Steve Harvey and his crew would say. I refuse to listen to POWER96 because the cast starts to speak spanish without the care of the non-spanish speakers. This all sucks and needs to be changed.

I am speechless, i wrote to the Steve Harvey morning show today, I can not believe that 103.5 The beat was removed and replaced with spanish music..when is enough enough? Spanish stations are already abundant on radio, cable tv, its the first thing you hear on the phone when calling a place a business. Im not being racist,(my children are 50% latin) but hell this is the United States, if you go to any other country (and I have lived in several)they speak in their native tongue! If this is truly the land of the free than stop catering to a specific population. ONLY IN SOUTH FLORIDA! Wow! So dissappointed. But living here in Miami one starts to get used to it!

The show got my day started inspirationally, and who can forget Tommy's prank phone calls and tips. Dam now what am I to listen to. Could have at least given us a heads up.
no need for 3 stations in a city with a less 20% black population, in todays corporate world of radio, while ya'll was booging u never thought about that, I would think about the 2 remaining cox stations that cater to the urban masked term aka black radio listener and get them to really open up their already fragmented playlists, no need for holding money back, they did this because they know we hold now power in this city we ain't the new frontier anymore get over it. im so tired of spanish radio they are like everywhere. i cant find even a clean radio station devoted to hip-hop. 99 jamz and power 96 is next. think im lying see what happens when you let spanish radio take control of everything. they start by making the regular radio station sound choppy like they are hacking. and then boom! its gone. spanish is even taking over cartoon channels. like they say spanish is the new english. unless now a days you speak spanish you cant get a job, they call it bi-langual, so yall better start taking classes.

I'm a 2nd generation Cuban and enjoy listening to both spanish and hip hop stations. However I feel there was already enough of a variety of spanish stations to choose from.... 95.7 98.3 94.9 Wow now 103.5??? I'm angry and saddened that still today there is such prejudice. BRING THE BEAT BACK.

This is a bunch of bull i turned the radio on in the car on Monday morning on my way in to work rady to listen to Steve Harvey, Shirley Strawberry, nephew Tommy and the others and all I could hear was some freaking spanish music and i said what the hell, told myself this has to be some sort of mistake but everyday after but still spanish music, I don't want to hear that shit, no warning what so ever put the f===ing steve harvey show back on,we will not listen to that station until they do. BAH HUMBUG to the bastards that came up with that freaking bright idea, moroons. I am pissed.

It is a shame how Miami, Fl has transformed into Little Cuba. It is sicknen. I see why so many African American professionals leave Miami and why so many Corporate Companies leave Miami. I think it was a mistake to take this station off the air. The Steve Harvey show was a great show and he was a inspiration in alot of our lives. There were many people who would get up and listen to him and the word that God wanted us to hear for that day. God was using him as a vessel and 103.5 you made a terrible mistake going off the air. There are so many spanish stations why would you add another when it is not necessary. I doubt verry serious that this station is going to last. believe it or not God was using 103.5 as a tool to get his message across to his children.

I have been listening to the Steve Harvey morning show ever since I moved to Florida in 2005 every morning. Why wasnt there a vote or something? I dont even listen to it anymore it was #5 in my car radio I am looking for another station to replace it. This sucks!

I was disappointed when this station was changed during the times it used to be 70s/90s disco party station to the hip hop station that has disappeared today and felt the hip hop stations were taking over specially when it made Power 96 change all its pop to hip hop music as well. Now, I can understand that many of you may be mad but what it is apparent is that most of you just listened to the morning show and from then on that radio station is just a copy of Power and Jamz. I'm Hispanic but like a previous poster mentioned I'm not much into spanish music but in this city one has not much of a choice when it comes to choosing diverse music! For example, there are no AC/Alternative/Dance (and I don't mean 93.9 but Party 93.1) radio stations. The radio companies are simply jumping on the Spanish radio bandwagon just like in the 2000s when hip hop was taking over other radio stations.
Please don't let Clear Channel's stupidity and greed further divide us. This decision was made by a fuck-face suit and tie with plugs from a cushy corner office. The station wasn't sold - Clear Channel changed the platform based on 1 statistic and no other research. All we can do is stop listening to their stations and crowd the internet with this bullshit. Post this on facebook/myspace/titter/blogs/etc. Boycott Clear Channel stations: 105.9, Y100, 940, 610, 94.9, 93.9 And write to them - flood their inboxes. Don't let corporate America continue to increase racial tenions. The more divided the people are, the less power we have.

I do agree with all of you, it is real messed up that 103.5 is no longer on air. Steve Harvey was inspiring and I loved his Strawberry letters. I wonder if Steve Harvey had any idea they were no longer going to be on air. I am a big fan of R&B music! However, I am disappointed with many racial remarks that are being said tours Hispanics. EVEN THE HISPANICS, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAME OF YOURSELVES! The Hispanics should not be blamed for 103.5 being taken off the air. Be upset with who ever did the deals. I don't have satellite radio, but I guess it's about time to look into it, cause I'm sure in the near future I'll turn on Hot 105 in the morning and hear R&B, then check again at 3pm, and hear spanish....sigh
I really don't think the ranting and raving that is going on is a personal attack on Latinos/Latinas..it is more directed upon the fact that stations for Black listeners are dwindling more and more, and to have ANOTHER Hispanic station pop up is just overkill. And anyone, including the Hispanic population, cannot debate that fact. 103.5 played more "Soul" than 99 Jamz, which is a joke, and Hot 105, which is somewhat substandard to me. There are at least 6 spanish stations on FM alone, not to mention the AM stations. Can u really believe that 103.5 was changed because another spanish music station was needed? Let's be real...

WOW I AND JUST FUCKING SPEACHLESS, I ALSO BLAME THE STEVE HARVEY SHOW I BELIEVE THEY KNEW THERE WOULD BE NO MORE 103.5 HIP/HOP AND R&B MUSIC, HOW COULD THEY NOT KNOW. HELL HOW COULD YOU NOT ADVISE THE LISTENERS. WELL FUCK US THEN FUCK THE SHOW AS WELL. THANK GOD I HAVE A COMPUTER, A IPOD AND THE ABILITY TO LISTEN TO TO MY IPOD FROM MY CAR.
As much as I am angry just like most of you for not being able to listen to The Steve Harvey Show anymore, however I am not surprised. 103.5 always changing. In fact the Beat lasted quite a long time compare to previous stations. I don't want to blame the hispanics for this. Clearly, this was a business decision and someone made a better deal. I bet you they can't touch 99.1. Most people only used to listen to the Beat in the morning just for The Harvey show, then the rest of the day The beat did not have enough listeners to keep it going, that was obvious. I still think it was done poorly without warning, but that's how it's always done. I'm yet to recover from loosing 93.1 (Love 94), which was the only awesome Smooth Jazz/slow jamz station in South Florida for as long as I can remember. Since then nothing surprises me on Radio. No doubt Miami sucks.
103.5 THE BEAT NEEDS THEIR ASS BEAT. THE OWNER IS A BITCH HE OR SHE COULD HAVE SAID THEY WERE SELLING THE STATION OR WHATEVER THEY DID. THIS IS BULLSHIT AND FUCKED UP ALL IN ONE. SOMEBODY KNEW BUT DIDN'T SAY NOTHING.
WOW!!!! I am speachless as to Clear Channels approach to taking "THE BEAT" off the air. I do hope all the DJ's find another home, as well as the Steve Harvey morning show. I for one will no longer listen the Y100 and any other Clear Channel Stations. 103.5 The Beat was one of the best local stations I could listen to without the profanities and degrading music and skits. What should the people of South Florida list to? Spanish Stations, GHETTO Stations (99 Jamz and 96.5), Party Music or politics.
It is sad when radio stations that people enjoy are being cancelled and yet another spanish languaged radio station takes its place. I understand the dynamics of South Florida, but please remember this is not the only population residing here.

this is certaily a slap in the face the steve harvey morning show loyal listen. Their is and was a fan base for the show,. and for it to be take with no regrad to its faithful listeners is an out rage. their was a committ said earlier on the post that the Hispanics are taking over. no sweet they already have. and what else you say. they are slowly intergrating Hispanic commericals. with subtitle. you have to pay attention to the small details. its up to us to voice our opinion oon such concerns.
So, if the hispanic have the money to buy stations, please tell me why don't they buy their own station and stop buying someone else's station. This should have been announced. I'm sure they didn't make the decision overnight. Everyone should write in to Steve Harvey Morning Show, maybe they can at least broadcast that on 99 Jamz or Hot 105. Cursing & going back and forth with racial remarks is not the right way to go.

DAMN, WMIB was the best thing that happen i enjoyed the BAKER BOYZ when they first started gave life to hiphop, then came starz and buck wild, and then steve harvey. 103.5 beat had an identity crisis over the last 6 years. I miss the ALL STAR REMIX with DJ AFFECT, THE MUMMY, LS ONE!
I say stop listening to all Clear Channel Stations. Invest in Sattelite Radio or plug your Ipod up and keep going!
Very highly disappointed,upset,and pissed off. Who made this decision? Who made this this happen with no warning? Who said let's just vito 103.5 The Beat and change it to a latino station? I mean really does this make any kind of since at all. This change is ridiculous. Why couldn't the latino's find their own station and leave 103.5 The Beat alone. Must they try to have everything we have. I just don't get this at all. There was no announcement or vote for this change. One morning 103.5 The Beat is here and then gone the next. Someway or somehow there needs to be a boycott on this, and trust me I will be one of the first in line. Extremely disapointed with this move. I love the divesrsity of South Florida, and have nothing against my Latino brothers and sisters, but I really enjoyed Steve Harvey MC search and the countless other talented Dj's. I was really hoping it was just a weekend thing and was so sad to find that it was permanent. I hope another radio station picks up Steve Harvey and the other DJs find better stations. Yet another reason to install an ipod doc in my car and quit listening to radio. A little heads up would have been nice.

This is another sad day for the City of Miami. For those of you who are planning to leave the City...this may be the main goal behind changing so much of our media and written correspondence into Spanish. Could it be that someone, somewhere is trying to make the City or Maybe the Country 100% Hispanic. I love my Spanish Speaking sisters and brothers, but when is the madness going to stop. America has gone far above in making accomodations for our Spanish refugees. These accomodations have changed the very fabric of our nation. You would even think that the only other language spoken in this country by the influx of refugees is Spanish. What about the speakers of other languages that are not English and Spanish? Are we unfairly addressing their issues and/or needs for accomodations. In my younger days, I used to believe that it just may be a plan for America to become the New Cuba in the years to come. I don't say that we stop looking out for our Spanish population, I just think we need to be more fair about it. Get real - it's not just about 103.5FM - it is something we really need to think about. Many of our television stations are geared toward Spanish speakers. Very seldom do you hear vital information given out during critical situations in any other language except English and Spanish. Does the rest of the population matter? Let's try to use our names so that these people can get some kind of idea of whose voices they are hearing and thereby maybe make better decisions regarding the demographics and where and what type of buying power we have and what type of market they have. It all usually comes down to the money anyway. We are already paying for TV that once was free to all. Soon the only radio we will have will be the pay stations. I read in the Bible where is states that money is at the root of all evil. We got to always consider the root and whether or not it is evil. Who are we going really hurting? Let's just take a look at what the love of money has done for our housing.

My homeboy mentioned this over facebook and it didn't dawn to me at all what happened !! This is straight foul. I wasn't necessarily a fan of the programming but you had options and Steve Harvey was a great show for the mature crowd. Clear channel is fucking up severely.
Please bring back 103.5 The Beat!!! How come the listeners weren't at the very least notified? I understand Mr. Olsen did what's best for his profit margin and since it's his private business, I can respect that. But as a businessman, I think he would at least have the common decency to advise his audience of the change over and maybe we would be a bit more understanding. The Beat DJs played really good soul, R&B and hip hop music. They differed from the goon music 99 Jamz put on heavy rotation and Power 96 is going back to alot of electronic-dance numbers. Ok finding out that my favorite radio station is no longer here pisses me off. I hate the day I moved back to miami. Sick of the spanish bull crap. I am very sad I love that show. .I'm 20 and have lived in usa all my life I can count the Spanish channels we only hhave 2 r&b stations 105.1 is for the older crowd and power 96 is a mini Hispanic station omg I love the strawberry letter that show wakes me up in the am its a relaxing educational cool and hot station bring it back! !!!!
