Miles away from arbitrary
Thanks to the influential meme-crowning fashion and culture blog HIPSTER RUNOFF for pointing out a SXSW flyer featuring Surfer Blood and the rest of the Pitchfork/Windish Agency's showcase set for March 19 in Austin.

Writer Carles or whomever makes the unattributed claim that Pitchfork "comes under fire" for this flyer, which features an impressive lineup of fresh indie acts, including Warpaint, Local Natives, Best Coast, Javelin and Neon Indian paired with beer logos. Now, since most bands drink beer and make money by playing for beer-swilling crowds, the only possible controversy would be if the bands didn't like the particular brand of beer chosen for them.

So, does Surfer Blood forsake the refreshing beach beer Corona? "We enjoy a good brew every now and then," they tell New Times. So diplomatic!

Look for more South Florida-flavored SXSW coverage in the coming weeks. See the full flyer, featuring altered logos of Red Stripe, Stella Artois, Blue Moon, Samuel Adams, Foster's, but no Pabst Blue Ribbon, and BONUS, cop the link to MP3/FLAC recordings of Surfer Blood's Feb. 27 performance at Brooklyn, N.Y., loft venue Market Hotel, all after the jump.

From nyctaper:
Somehow in the intervening four months, Surfer Blood seems older and wiser and definitely more relaxed. Their set on Saturday was all material from the debut album, but what set it apart was the fun the band was having with the crowd -- enough so that a Weezer guitar tease gave way an audience-led run through "Sweater Song". The band persisted through some technical problems to end the show with a crazy stage and audience jumping version of "Swim" where most of the vocals were sang while John was held aloft by the crowd.
