Reasons Not to Make Fun of the New Lilith Fair, Which Has a West Palm Beach Stop This Year

Loretta is betta!
In no particular order:

1. Cat Power
2. The Gossip
3. Erykah Badu
4. Jill Scott
5. Metric
6. MARY J. BLIGE
7. Tegan and Sarah
8. Emmylou Harris
9. Ximena Sarinana
10. Sia
11. Chairlift
12. Nneka
13. Marina and the Diamonds
14. Janelle Monae
15. La Roux ....

....and, my personal favorite, OG country badass Loretta Lynn! Please, quickly become acquainted with these two amazing songs. "Your Squaw is on the Warpath" warns a loser guy not to bother bringing his drunk ass back to her "hunting ground;"  "The Pill," meanwhile, celebrates the liberation brought by hormonal birth control. Yes!

Okay, with that out of the way -- yes, the Lilith Fair is returning, and it's landing in South Florida with a planned stop in West Palm Beach (I guess at the Cruzan Amphitheatre). No specific date has been announced, but the full line-up is out. Yes, it includes some old Lilith Fair, uh, classics, and at least one major fail. But overall, the only thing any of the women playing hold in common is estrogen, which makes for a pretty stylistically diverse and even innovative bill.

Returning of course are the Indigo Girls and Sarah McLachlan -- wouldn't be Lilith Fair without them.

Somewhere in the middling range are acts like Colbie Caillat, Sugarland, Norah Jones, Sara Bareilles, A Fine Frenzy, Missy Higgins, and Kate Nash. How excited you get about all them will probably depend on whether or not you watch VH1 for actual music.

Finally, the most epic booking fail of the whole thing: Ke$ha. No, I'm publicly not a fan of hers, and New Times web editor Jose Duran and I light incense and gather offerings for the quick sinking of her career. (TEAM UFFIE!) What's worse about her appearance on this festival, though -- besides, of course, her screeching, cracking pseudo-raps and dated electro beats -- is the fact that she's basically a soulless puppet of male producers.

Anyways, here's the full list of announced artists so far. Stay tuned for an actual show date when the festival announces them.
