Help Mend a Heart: New Found Glory Singer's Mom Sick, Without Insurance and Needs Your Help

If you've lived in South Florida for any length of time, chances are, there are fewer than six degrees of separation between you and the tight-knit Pundik family. Of the three creative Pundik kids, Jordan is the singer for New Found Glory (and is currently on tour with his friends in Dashboard Confessional -- Chris Carrabba, et al). Jordan's bro Daniel used to play in bands before relocating to Carlsbad, California where he now works as a chef. And sis Edra is a singer-slash-makeup artist who's engaged to Alex Vidal, who for years has been a huge promoter of local shows and parties.

The siblings, whose inspiring family life has been documented in revealing articles over the years, freaked out when their mom Maureen started to get sick just before Thanksgiving. On Friday, she had chest pains and was rushed to Holy Cross hospital. Doctors found a strange virus infecting her heart.  She needed an immediate pacemaker, and son Daniel says that she also has fluid being drained and a special pump that is moving blood to her heart.

The family says that Jackson Memorial Hospital is the only local facility equipped to give mom a necessary heart transplant and subsequent care. Problem is that Jackson won't treat her unless she can pay -- and despite working hard and paying for insurance her whole life, mom has been uninsured after she was laid off and her COBRA insurance ran out.  Through a website and outreach efforts, the family has raised $27,000 so far "but I don't know if less than $500,000 is going to make a difference at this point," says Alex. To help out, visit helpmendaheart.com.

I believe Jackson Memorial Hospital is not the only hospital in USA that can provide heart transplant surgery, the cost of surgery is way too high, considering information online about heart transplants surgery lower costs in the States and other countries.

You understand, Alex that as much people can donate and little time we have, $500,000 is too much... if only some charity organizations and millionaires, celebrities will finally help donating.

I Pray for a Miracle to happen!

Why are you all hating on this family? You say 500,000 is too much? do you realize how fast they have raised the 27,000? they are not only asking for monetary donations, they are asking for prayers/positive thoughts! visit their website before you judge. they know not all of us can donate money, but we can donate 30 seconds to his mom and everyone else who could benefit from the power or prayer!!!
good luck guys! and my heart is with you maureen:)

Do you seriously believe that bands on independent labels receive health insurance? The majority of bands and musicians on major labels do not even receive insurance. The members in New Found Glory probably make just enough money to support themselves. 2% of all musicians can actually make a living off their music. 1% of those are millionaires.

To the first comment:

Labels make most the money, band members are last to get paid. what's left to split between the band members it pretty slim by the time it reaches them in most cases.

Everyone needs to work for health care reform in this country. If anyone in a Senator's family needed a heart transplant, there would be no question about it. i had a transplant 4 years ago and i am doing really well,I had great insurance and didn't have to deal with worrying about financing my life saving surgery. I just wish every American was entitled to health care.I do have to always worry now about losing my insurance and knowing i will never be able to get insured again because of my pre-existing condition! The cost of tests that i need every month and the meds i take everyday would be too expensive for just about anyone without insurance to cover it.Good luck, I hope health care reform passes and Maureen can get Insurance.

BUY A PRINT, SAVE A LIFE!!! http://thecameraclicks.com/mendaheart/

With authorization from New Found Glory and the band's label, Epitaph Records, I am proud to offer a limited edition print run of six photographs with the hope that the proceeds will help fund Maureen Water's medical treatment. Each of the photos will be a limited run of 50 prints and each will be hand numbered on the back. The photos are from the band's secret hometown show which I shot on October 16th at Solid Sound Studios.
