Last Night: Yelle (Again!) at Art Loves Music

• Completely agree with this review. Amazing performer (and performance despite the crowd). I had worked my way up to front row center and even then I saw more people texting on their phones than dancing. Shame on you MIAMI!

• The DJ at the containers (who spun the worst set of 60's rock ever) actually said Gang Gang Dance when he was trying to usher people to the beach. Sooo yes, saying there was some confusion over who was playing is probably an understatement. Anyway, it was chilly, the beach is a bad setting for any show that isn't in-your-face loud, most of the crowd was older and really here more for spectacle than anything else. Sooo yeah, bad crowd, but I still enjoyed it.

• Really has any Art Loves Music event had a great crowd? Nope. People are there to mingle, talk art and be seen rather than attend a concert. It's just a diversion to them.

• Maybe I was drunk or maybe I just like being outside next to the beach but I enjoyed this set infinitely more than the Polish AC one. And Jose, I really don't see what you liked so much about the PAC crowd. They were pushy, it was hard to see past a certain point and most of the good crowd spots were pretty close to the loud ass speakers. Not to mention that the PAC has the worst run bar ever. Yelle seemed to enjoy herself more here too, she was totally feeling that wind her hair.

• I'm going to posit a different argument for the lack of enthusiasm, and that's that much of the crowd indeed WAS familiar with her already. There were, uh, <i>beaucoup de francais</i> there last night, and in France, Yelle has already reached serious commercial saturation, and is largely seen at this point as something for tweens/very young teenage girls. It's kind of like if we went abroad, and the new hip thing was Paramore or something, and we were expected to suddenly get excited about it. Julie is still adorable and energetic though, it just wasn't the right fit for the band.

• Raymond, I've been following the Art Loves Music concert series for a while and Yelle was basically booked a week before the event, which has never happened before (I called the Basel offices and they couldn't even give me a straight answer, in fact, person on the other line confirmed they were having trouble finding an act and were afraid they weren't going to get anyone in time). I'd check your own facts before you throw accusations of inaccuracies. Also, Yelle's set was VERY different from the Polish American Club's set. In fact, it was shorter and some songs were omitted. At the PAC she played every song on the album, which last night she didn't do. That's definitely an inaccurate statement.

• Yes, the crowd was a not what it was back in october, yet my take was much of the crowd was unfamiliar with the artist. People who paid to go to the Polish American Club are going to be much more enthusiatic than the random middle age couple who wandered over from the art exhibit. Also, The concert was an exact duplicate of that which they did at the Polish American Club. No excitement there. Finally, The Art Loves Music show always announces their performers late. Every year. From Iggy Pop to Peaches to Avenue D. Check your facts next time before reproducing rumors. I just started reading your blog a week ago and this is the second inaccuracy I found. :(
