Q&A with Denise Austin, Health and Fitness Expert for the Lifetime Television Morning Talk Show, the Balancing Act

The Balancing Act
We could probably all use a little motivation when it comes to staying fit, healthy and happy. But when you have kids, a full-time job -- or both -- it can be hard to find the time to focus.

That's why (for some) the difference could mean simply finding the right balance -- busy lifestyle and all.

Luckily, Denise Austin -- the fitness guru who has been coaching people back into shape for more than 20 years -- is back on television with a spot on a new show aimed at helping people do just that!

How? With her "Wake Up and Go!" fitness routine that airs daily on Lifetime television's new morning health and fitness talk show, The Balancing Act (Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST/PST).

According to Austin, her segment on the show is designed to motivate and support hard-working women nationwide. Thanks to 15-minute morning workouts, as well as health and beauty tips in the form of a weekly special known as "Denise's Daily Dose," you can tune-in 5-days a week keep you on a path to healthier, happier -- and more flattering -- you.

Austin, known for her upbeat, cheerful attitude and sunny smile, recently took time out of her busy schedule to sit down with Charlie and do some dishing about what's changed for her over the past few years.

For Austin, some things haven't changed: she still has her treats while shunning fake foods and artificial sweeteners. However, now her focus relies more on wholesome, healthy food trends that have her eating more fish than ever before -- even grinding her own flax seeds.

Here's what the busy mom and fitness femme fatale had to say:

As of last Friday, DD is serving café con leche at all the South Florida locales.

Creamy and Refreshing...and FREE!
Many people think that Twitter is just a means to learn too much about overexposed celebrities. Granted, when John Mayer talks about his "little friend" or when P.Ditty shares his love for tantric sex many people question the value of Twitter.

So what exactly is Twitter good for?  Tweetups that involve FREE FOOD!

Level Nine Invoker Says Spellcasting Soda is the Mana Bomb

jonesspellcastingsoda.jpg

"Tellric the Invoker here. Just the other day, my party and I were caught deep in the bowels of the Underdark facing a mob of rabid duergar, when an uncontrollable thirst struck me like a +3 Staff of Command. So, I did what any wise adventurer would do: I reached into my Bottomless Knapsack of Nimm and produced a crystalline bottle of Jones Spellcasting Soda. Lest you dismiss my endorsement like a familiar with a bladder problem, allow me to elaborate: Jones Spellcasting Soda is the only soda specifically designed with the D20 adventurer in mind. The fizzy brews come in six flavors such as Dwarven Draught, Eldritch Blast, and, my personal favorite, Potion of Healing. Have you ever tasted an actual potion of healing? It's like licking the floor of an umber hulk's den! Yuck!

"Refined corn syrup sodas will leave your constitution dwindling through a long play session. Not so with Jones. Each of their specially packaged imbibes are made with pure cane sugar and natural flavors. Not to mention Jones is a sustainable company, which means I can feel safe knowing the monsters of the Forgotten Realms will always be around for me to slay. With Jones Spellcasting Soda in hand, I'm ready to take on anything the DM throws at me, from mind-flaying illithid to marauding ogres.

"So next time you're deep in some gnoll-infested dungeon and out of action points, conjure up some Jones Spellcasting Soda. It'll help you get your healing surge on!"

Tellric the Invoker is not an employee of Jones Soda, he's just a fan of shameless marketing. Order your Jones Spellcasting Soda ($10.99 six-pack; $18.99 12-pack) here

NOS Energy Drink: Like an Orange Creamsicle Rollercoaster

nos.jpg
After nearly two solid decades of heavy caffeine consumption, I count myself nearly immune to the wonder drug. With a thousand different kinds of energy drinks on the market, I've decided to find out which ones work, and which should just be mixed with vodka and evacuated a few hours later. This week, I gave NOS Energy Drink a shot.

This drink is available almost everywhere now, so you won't have a hard time picking it up. It comes in a couple different flavors, orange and grape. I went with the original orange flavor, for no other reason than I liked the look of the bottle. I'm a sucker for marketing I guess. Inspecting the label, I see the NOS energy drink is labeled as a dietary supplement. I'm not sure what diet calls for 3000 mg of Taurine, 400 mg of caffeine, and 90 grams of sugar, but I've officially signed up for it. To NOS's defense, it does contain 300% of your daily B6 and B12 vitamins, so that should make you feel better.

Just to make NOS even more awesome, it's not filled with simply "ingredients." No, you see NOS only has "Power Ingredients" like carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, and taurine. Wow, taurine is the fourth listed ingredient. Beneath the power ingredients, there's a warning that children, nursing women, and people sensitive to caffeine should avoid this product.

Rockstar Zero Carb Energy Drink: Surprisingly Drinkable

After nearly two solid decades of heavy caffeine consumption, I count myself nearly immune to the wonder drug. While my morning coffee/Diet Mountain Dew regimen gets me back to normal, sometimes that's simply not enough. So I've decided to start trying out the bevy of energy drinks on the market to see which ones actually work, and which ones are just awful tasting excuses for vodka mixers. This week, I gave Rockstar's Zero Carb Energy Drink a shot.

The bright blue can clearly states "Double Size, Double Strength." The 16-ounce can feels massive in my hands, like it could be used as a bludgeon if the contents don't do the job. The labeling along the top of the can promises a blend of caffeine, green tea, yerba mate, b-vitamins, and taurine. I convince myself, thanks to the b-vitamins, that this will be good for my health.
