What hell hath Halloween wrought?

Candy corn, adored only by compulsive sugar junkies and dentists looking to finance a new boat, has been cross-bred with everyone's favorite sugar-drenched cookie; the Oreo. Nabisco will debut the limited edition Candy Corn Oreo on Monday, selling it exclusively in Target stores for the 2012 fall season.

Foodbeast got ahold of a package on Friday, solving the riddle of what the cookie tastes like. (Clean Plate Charlie's guess? "Future cavities.") The Foodbeast assessment? Tastes "like frosting." While you give the food-colored-laced cookie a whirl this coming week, contemplate these other flavors that Oreo should consider for a future limited-edition run.

Fort Lauderdale Detour: Floored by Flan at Michael's Genuine

​​Though I've been eating around south Florida with abandon,  I've only had a handful of desserts: oreo gelato at D'Angelo, a slice of cheesecake at Dig, and a delicious biscuit topped with homemade whipped cream and mangoes at O-B House. 

I enjoyed all three for different reasons, but I must confess: I do not have much of a sweet tooth. My idea of dessert has been the chalkiest Ecuadorian dark chocolate I can find and a glass of tawny Port.

Uddersweets on Las Olas Boulevard: Buy One Ice Cream, Get One Free

​Naturally, you'd be wary when an idea born and bred in Weston decides to send a doppelgänger to Las Olas. (If FTL were a copy of the planned suburban community, we'd all drive BMWs, live in matching pink houses, and have hair like Debbie Wasserman Schultz.)

But this idea just might work. 

Since July 8, the new Uddersweets ice cream and candy shop at 920 E. Last Olas Blvd. has been serving sweet, sticky, yummy little items.

​It's no secret that Girl Scout cookies are a popular treat and topic around these parts, but those Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Tagalongs--while unarguably delicious--are not entirely free from controversy. Turns out, a good number of those iconic morsels contain palm oil, which if you're like me is a total surprise, because you have chosen never to read the side panel on those boxes before sliding an entire sleeve of them down the hatch. ​There's no doubt that people have a love affair with chocolate.  Chocolate is more than a candy - it can send a message of love of friendship, cheer you up when you've had a lousy day or just plain make you feel good. Next week millions of people will celebrate Valentine's Day with chocolate. Bet you didn't know that some of the best chocolate is hand made in Dania. Jimmie's Candies makes and sells chocolate locally and has two retail locations - in Dania and Wilton Manors.
