Rick's Lobsta Bar Opens Inside Camelot Nightclub Offering New England-Themed Fare

Camelot's membership card gets you access to the lounge.
South Florida restaurateur and nightlife maven Rodney Mayo is celebrating the grand opening of his 13th establishment this Labor Day weekend at Camelot in downtown West Palm Beach.

But -- even though it serves food -- Camelot isn't a restaurant. It's also not a nightclub. And it's not really a lounge either. It's sort of like a blending of all three, something unique to South Florida's nightlife scene.

Magic Hat Brewery and the Riverside Market Join Forces for Summer Movie Drinking Games

The quirky folks over at Magic Hat Brewery have managed a bit of a social coup by getting Fort Lauderdale's most compelling craft beer destination, the Riverside Market, to renege on its Sunday policy of "no TV, quality conversation only" by staging a summer movie series. With their couches at the ready and a new, retractable screen, the market's keeping it easy on your pockets too with a selection of $2 drafts and bottles available during the screening.

Built on the model of "drink when..." type of drinking games and surely bastardized by the "smeg-isms" of TV shows like Red Dwarf (chug a lager whenever someone says "smeg") and movies like Blue Velvet (slug a PBR and a Heineken whenever something weird happens) and the Deer Hunter (drink a Rolling Rock whenever Christopher Walken looks sad), they've wisely chosen as an opening salvo the Coen Brothers' 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski.

Feelgoods Rock Bar and Grill
Things seem to be getting a little frisky again at Feelgoods Rock Bar and Grill in downtown West Palm Beach as the manager was assaulted last Thursday and the suspect led off to jail.

According to the police report, Feelgoods bouncers were escorting a man, identified as Michael Elias Salha, out of the bar Thursday night around 3 a.m. when he allegedly assaulted Michael Piegaro. Police officers on foot patrol witnessed the altercation and placed Salha under arrest for Affray -- or fighting in a public space.

Boca's reputation as a place for old rich people to live out their final days on gated golf courses makes it easy to forget that the city is home to a major university. And wherever there are college kids, there's a thirst for cheap beer and plenty of it. Enter the Night Owl Boca, a sporty bar that opened in December just minutes from the Florida Atlantic University campus.

End of the World Party at Green Room in Fort Lauderdale

How many times do you suppose you're going to hear Michael Stipe sing "It's the End of the World as We Know It" on Friday?

T.S. Eliot famously mourned the world going out "not with a bang but a whimper." Well, the crew at the Green Room in Fort Lauderdale have no intentions of ringing in the apocalypse in such a Debbie Downer fashion. They've got a banging party lined up for Friday, December 21, 2012 (otherwise known as the date that everyone on Facebook won't stop talking about) and you're invited.

Where to Party for Thanksgiving Eve 2012 in South Florida

Spend Thanksgiving Eve with the Copa girls.

It's a given that Wednesday, November 21, is going to be a non-stop party. After all, Thanksgiving Eve is one of -- if not the -- biggest bar night of the year. While you're pretty much guaranteed to find a crowd (and lots of college kids) where ever you go, there are a few places in Broward and Palm Beach counties that are planning a little something extra. After the jump, find a roundup of pre-Thanksgiving parties, because what would Turkey Day be without a little hangover.

Hop Won in Davie: Mom and 19-Year Old Son Take Over Chinese Restaurant, Have A Blast

All photos by Zachary Fagenson
A spruced up Hop Won
There's not much to do in western Davie off Griffin Road near I-75, a stone's throw from the farmland of the Southwest Ranches. So Gigi Stetler, who for the last 26 years had owned and managed Broward RV, decided to buy the failing Hop Won restaurant with the idea to transform it into a trendy lounge-restaurant, saving people looking for entertainment and good food a 30-minute-plus ride east.

"I bought it because I'm not the only one who wants a place to go," she said. "To get any kind of entertainment, you have to go to the Hard Rock" Hotel and Casino.

Stelter is a first-time restaurateur, and her son Jarryd, who is only 19, helps run the kitchen and conceptualizes dishes of his own. Stelter has transformed the interior from one with yellowing white walls into a more enticing neon pink-and-black chalkboard checkerboard pattern on which diners are encouraged to write graffitti. Stelter is hosting nights for the Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche-owners clubs, and the singles crowd. There's no doubt they're reaching to be trendy. With a step onto Bethenny Frankel's coattail, Gigi boasts about their "skinny" cocktails made with low-calorie Ty Ku Sake. Dishes conceived by Jarryd from the kitchen plainly come from the mind of someone who's spent years glued to the Food Network.

The menu is a mash-up of westernized Chinese food and Jarryd's creations. Though Gigi at first tried to get rid of the Chinese menu, customers who had frequented the restaurant under previous owners kept returning, demanding the honey garlic chicken and other items. Gigi has kept on the original Chinese chef, Hui Huant; he and his staff are old pros at executing some of the authentic Chinese dishes and have also learned to make Jarryd's inventions.

We tried a few items that held their place on the menu, as well as some new creations.
