It's less than a month away. On April 19, the Las Olas Wine and Food Festival will be taking over Fort Lauderdale's most prestigious boulevard.

The four-block festival will be bringing in wine, cocktails, and food galore. And just so you know, the festival has added a bunch of new restaurants to the lineup. Read on for the list.

In just over a month, the Las Olas Wine and Food Festival will be taking over Las Olas Boulevard--the date is April 19 at 7:30 pm, to be specific. With two liquor lounges, over 40 wine tables, and seventy plus attending restaurants it's slated to be quite the event. 

Hopefully, you'll be there to check it out. But if not, don't fret, some retail outlets will be running free--yes, free--tastings leading up to the festival.

Despite a Storm, Las Olas Wine and Food Pleased a Crowd

Timpano, Tap 42, Cheese Culture, and the many wine purveyors are the winners of this year's Las Olas Wine and Food Festival. With the onset of thunder and lightning accompanied by inches of rain, these businesses were among the few to weather the storm, feeding festivalgoers hell-bent on getting their $100 worth. It was a crew that gleefully embraced the weather, stomping through puddles that stretched across the road.

Wine reps stood in the rain to fill empty glasses of those who sought shelter under awnings. Timpano line cooks wore white towels on their heads as they worked the hotline, sautéeing handfuls of mussels, flames licking hot pans. A chef distributed food with tongs, dropping morsels into cupped hands, like communion.

Cupcake Battle 2012: And the Winners Are...

A warm thank you to this year's participants at the New Times' cupcake battle at Friday night's Las Olas Wine & Food Festival, during which seven bakers whipped up hundreds of cupcakes for an enthusiastic crowd. 

Three judges sampled the bakers' choice cupcakes to determine Best Decorated and Best Tasting. The Fan Favorite tallies were just under way when the skies opened to the downpour that pummeled the night's event. Despite the weather, a crowd remained, encouraged by restaurants that fed a damp crowd. 

Each bakery offered a cupcake to characterize its style and flavor.

Prepping For Tonight's Las Olas Wine & Food Festival

Since early this morning, restaurant staffers and festival workers have been setting up for Las Olas Wine & Food festival that gets going tonight just after 7 p.m., presented by Premier Beverage and benefiting the American Lung Association.

The event will feature more than 70 restaurants and 40 wine / beer tables, plus that infamous New Times cupcake battle we've been writing about for the past few weeks.

The photo is a quick pic from our How-To photographer, Christina Mendenhall, who's combing the festival grounds as chefs and staff ready for the event. The photo above is a section of the Cheese Culture's (literal) cheese cake: not just a decoration, but a display of what the shop is serving tonight.

Revisit the blog over the weekend for announcements of cupcake battle winners as well as slideshows of the event. In the meantime, it's too late to purchase tickets online, but you can learn more about festival logistics and $100 a pop tickets here. It's all for a good cause.

A Wedding Cake Made of Cheese and Other Eats at Las Olas Wine and Food Festival

The 17th-annual Las Olas Wine and Food Festival is slated for Friday, April 20, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. with 70 participating restaurants and 45 tables of beer, wine, and liquor to help you get your drink on. Proceeds from the $100 ticket price are donated to the American Lung Association.

All week, a series of events lead up to the festival, such as the sold-out Around the Wheel event Thursday night, a cheese and wine pairing at Cheese Culture. And be sure not to miss the afterparty beginning at 10 p.m. in the YOLO courtyard.

New Times is hosting the cupcake battle, featuring ten area bakeries that will compete for best tasting, best decorated, and the fan favorite of the festival. Each baker is whipping up hundreds of cakes, so swing on by. There will be plenty of cakes for you to sample.

Will Booze-Filled Cupcakes Win This Year's Cupcake Battle?

​Cupcakes with booze are a sure-fire means to get your alcohol and sugar fix in one shot.

Minicupcakes are the specialty from Erica Catalano, a lawyer who bakes for a hobby. Booze-inspired cupcakes are among the dozens sold via Cupcakes by Erica, an online bakery Catalano started last year.

"This is my creative outlet," said Catalano. Her grandmother wrote an Italian cookbook and her had been in the restaurant business in New York. "I grew up loving food and dabbling in the kitchen," she said.

A competitor at the New Times cupcake battle during Las Olas Wine and Food Festival, we're hoping she'll serve the girly choice of pink Champagne with strawberry frosting; the retro rum and Cherry Coke; or a petite bite of beer with the Guinness-infused truffle cakes.
