South Florida's craft beer scene is growing -- fast. If it's one thing Beerfest proved, it's that we have a lot to look forward to when it comes to new brews.

According to the Florida Brewer's Guild, Broward County is looking at as many as three new breweries in the coming months, with one currently under construction in Pompano Beach. In Palm Beach County, there are five breweries in the works, with two in Boynton Beach, and another slated for Boca Raton.

This year's New Times' Original Beerfest showcased many of the new breweries set to come on tap in the next several months.

Here are some of our best brew highlights from this weekend's event, with a quick look at a few the breweries coming to Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County in the coming year.

That's good beer!
Time to plan your strategy, beer lovers!

New TImes' Original Beerfest turns Fort Lauderdale's Esplanade Park into a fantasy of brews this Saturday, October 25, and we figured we'd whet your appetite with a complete list of the beers being served.

We suggest using this as a checklist, of sorts. Or rating chart. Or a way to take tasting notes on the beers you loved so know what to order next time you're at the brewpub.

A few notes:

Beers in the Brewmaster/VIP section are only available from 6 to 7 p.m., when Brewmaster/VIP ticketholders have free reign for their extra hour of sampling. Also, the beers are listed in alphabetical order, so don't think we're secretly ranking them or anything. Any brewery is subject to change their beer selection, and certain, rare beers might be limited in availability. In other words, the earlier you arrive at Beerfest, the more fun you'll have!

Also, be sure to try Mack House's Moustache Rye'd, brewed especially for Beerfest!

Make beer. Make new friends.
The South Florida beer scene is really kicking up. From Funky Buddha in Fort Lauderdale to Wynwood Brewing Company in Wynwood, small craft breweries are making us a destination for seriously great beer.

What's most exciting is that many of these brewery owners started out as home brewers. Wynwood Brewing's Luis G. Brignoni started his career with a simple home brewing kit he received as a Christmas gift from his dad.

Are you the next big thing in beer? Then enter New Times' Beerfest Home Brew Competition. The competition takes place during the 17th-annual New Times' "Original" Beerfest, presented by Isle Casino, which returns to Ft. Lauderdale's Esplanade Park on Saturday, October 25th.

Arts & Eats Guide 2014: Fun Is Brewing at New Times' Original Beerfest October 25

This article and more can be found in the New Times' Arts & Eats Guide 2014, your annual guide to the season's art exhibits, food festivals, cultural events, and up-and-coming chefs, artists, and scene makers. The Arts & Eats Guide 2014 can be found on New Times newsstands Thursday, October 2. But there's no need to wait to read this...

Not to sound too hipsterish, but New Times has been a champion of showcasing good beer and the brewers behind it since before it was a thing -- since 1998, in fact. In recent years, the surge in interest in the market known as craft beer has brought more and more attendees to Beerfest, including new and interesting brewers, people just getting into the scene, and an onslaught of festival junkies just looking to have a good time.

The 2014 chapter of this 17-year-old celebration of all things sudsy will be held at Fort Lauderdale's Esplanade Park, in the heart of downtown, and the lineup for the fest is looking to be skewed in the craft-beer drinker's favor.
