Whether you're looking to uncork some wine, enjoy a craft beer pairing dinner, or take your dog to happy hour, there's something to do in Broward and Palm Beach counties this week.
Summer Wine Passport Series
Join West Palm Beach wine bar, the Blind Monk, on a summer trip to Italy as they showcase picks from the Old World wine countries. Starting at 4 p.m., the bar will feature several Italian varietals by the glass, with flights and tastings available. Of course, they'll be doing it in traditional Blind Monk style: with vintage Italian films on the big screen all night long.
"FondueRaiser" at the Melting Pot
If you like cheese -- especially melted cheese smothering every inch of your food -- then this week's FondueRaiser at the Melting Pot in Boca Raton might be right up your alley. The Boca Raton Regional Hospital will be hosting a special fundraiser benefiting area cancer treatment centers. All proceeds from the "FondueRaiser" will go to the League of Ribbons, which will benefit patients at the Lynn Cancer Institute through a variety of programs, including a resource fund for patients in need of financial assistance during cancer treatment. The "FondueRaiser" will be held at the Melting Pot in Boca Raton from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Drop by for fondue, cocktails, or a glass of wine -- and drink or dip to a good cause. Reservations can be made by calling 561-997-7472; mention "Dip for the Lynn Cancer Institute" when making your reservations.
"Bites and Brews" at 50 Ocean
If pairing dinners featuring the best in local beers just happens to be your thing, look no further than Delray Beach. This Tuesday, 50 Ocean -- the waterfront restaurant above Boston's on the Beach -- will hosting a special pairing dinner known as "Bites and Brews" as part of their monthly, themed dinner series. The special, six-course tasting menu will feature select craft beers from local Delray Beach brewer, Saltwater Brewery. The food, prepared by 50 Ocean executive chef Blake Malatesta, will be a taste tour you won't soon forget. It starts with a welcome appetizer, followed by an indulgent array of dishes. Guests will have the opportunity to sample entrees that include Florida wahoo crudo, buttermilk-fried frog legs, roasted duck, and suckling pig with all the trimmings. Enjoy it all from the backlit quartz bar with panoramic ocean views, surrounded by Florida decor from both past and present. The "Bites and Brews" event will take place on Tuesday, August 26 from 6:30-9 p.m. The cost is $69 per person, plus tax and gratuity. The restaurant offers complimentary valet parking. Seating for this event is limited. For reservations, visit www.50ocean.com, or call 561-278-3364.
Franciscan Wine Dinner at Bistro Ten Zero One
This Wednesday, Bistro Ten Zero Ones will be continuing its series of summer wine dinners with a special event dinner. Known for using farm fresh ingredients straight from Bistro's on-site garden, executive chef Chris DeGweck and chef Steve Tourbon have created a exquisite menu highlighting all that is fresh and local. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 7 p.m., followed a 4-course dinner with wine pairings served at each course. The cost is $50 per person (plus tax and gratuity), and reservations are required. The dinner menu will include a grilled Brussels sprout Caesar salad, locally-caught fish, grilled beef tenderloin, and a banana panna cotta.
Lunch at Chez Jean-Pierre Bistro
Normandy-born chef Jean-Pierre Leverrier's sautéed sea scallops in brown butter, homemade foie gras terrine, and dish of roasted duck glazed with honey and thyme are timeless French classics. If you've ever dreamed of learning how to cook them, dine alongside Pierre himself with a summer lunch series that teaches you -- and feeds you. Each series offers participants a three-course meal while listening to an interview with the man behind the menu. The chef comes out of the kitchen and into the dining room as Palm Beach Daily News food editor Roberta Sabban chats with chef Pierre, and the suppliers that help them create the magic that ends up on your plate. During the luncheon, Pierre will share his recipes, tips, and secrets. Due to limited space, reservations are required. Call 561-805-8562, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
