Road Trip With G. Garvin Visits Broward Restaurants Hot & Soul and Southern Swank Kitchen, Airs June 25

Categories: Food News

The show's premise is based off Garvin's visiting cities around the country, visiting restaurants that remind him of his Southern roots.

To find the featured restaurants (and fishing charter), the show's assistant producers researched spots around the area. After narrowing down the list, they contacted the owners to schedule tasting and interviews. From there, they picked eateries to feature on television.

"When the producer and assistant producer arrived, we instantly hit it off," says Christy Samoy of Hot & Soul. "They called us at the end of all the interviews to let us know that they had picked us and that we would be filming the next week."

On the show, Hot & Soul partner -- Samoy's husband, Mike Hampton -- did the cooking demo with Garvin while Samoy presented some other dishes. Several dishes were featured, including the Gnaughty Gnocchi, with oxtail meat, San Marzano tomatoes, basil, and pecorino.

"It was very comfortable," says Hampton. "Most of the crew was in the dining room, and there were only a few cameramen in the room with us. G. is a great host, and it's easy to talk to him. Honestly, we both act like a more animated version of ourselves when we are 'performing,' so it's not that difficult."

Hampton and Samoy thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

"We met some great people," says Samoy. "The whole crew was professional yet lively. We were happy to do it and would love to have a similar opportunity again."

Could this be the start of some South Florida chef cooking shows? Hey, you never know.

The show airs on the Cooking Channel.
