Due South Brewing Co. Named Best Large Brewery in Florida, Picks Up Gold Medals (Video)
It's been a busy weekend for brewers in Florida: the start of Tampa Bay Beer Week with the Florida Brewers Guild Festival and the judged awards of the Best Florida Beer's Brewer's Ball.
This past Sunday, March 2, brewers from all over the state descended on Tampa to find out the results of the months-long judging process.
As we've previously reported, Boynton Beach's own Due South Brewing Co. was awarded five medals in the "Best Beer" categories, but the actual placements of those awarded beers have been a guarded secret... until now!
According to sources at the event, Due South walked away with placements with the following beers:
- GOLD: Mariana Trench Imperial Stout, Asylum Harbor Red Ale, & Category 5 DIPA
- SILVER: Cafe Ole Espresso Porter
- BRONZE: Apple Brandy Aged Pico Duarte Imperial Stout
In addition, the brewery picked up the prestigious "Best Large Brewery in Florida" award.
Speaking to The List after the win, owner and head brewer Mike Halker said: "It's huge for us. We're not even 2 years old yet. I think it gives us some credibility as a brewery. We are so young, so because of that, we do have to work harder in order to sort of stand level with the big guys."
If you haven't yet, take an evening to get familiar drinking local with some medal-winning beers from the best large brewery in Florida.
