101 Cantina in Boca Raton: 98 Arrests Since June
Most restaurants in Boca Raton's Mizner Park area are known as genteel establishments where a tony crowd can savor a good meal and a few martinis. But 101 Cantina, the Southern cousin of Gainesville's famous tailgate party place, didn't seem to get that memo.
101 Cantina 101 Cantina is the site of many arrests.
The restaurant, which replaced another rowdy college student magnet, the Mexican, opened in June 2013 at the Royal Palm Place Plaza. Since then, Boca Raton Police have responded to incidents around the restaurant 92 times, according to the Sun Sentinel.
The most recent call, according to the Boca Raton Police, occurred this past Sunday at 1:37 a.m., when officers responded to a fight at 101 Cantina. According to the police blotter, no arrests were made.
Many other incidents at the restaurant appear to be related to underage drinking, with many 17- to 20-year-olds being summoned for possessing alcohol. Generally these suspects are not arrested but must still appear in court.
The restaurant's marketing strategy seems geared toward college students, with recent Mardi Gras and St. Paddy's celebrations touted on its Facebook page.
We attempted to reach 101 Cantina and left a message with its Gainesville and Tallahassee locations (there was no answering machine at the Boca Raton location). We will update this blog post when we receive a reply.
