Hukilau 2014: The Final Blowout Set for June
The good news is that Hukilau 2014 is going to be bigger and better, with five days of music, entertainment, and Tiki drinks scheduled at the Bahia Mar Beach Resort and the Mai-Kai from June 11 to 15.
The bad news is that this, the 13th annual Hukilau will be the last...ever.
Christie J. White (aka Tiki Kiliki), the event's producer,
co-founder, organizer, and owner says, "It will be 13 years since The Hukilau
debuted in Atlanta, honoring a historic Trader Vic's location. We have
called The Mai-Kai and Fort Lauderdale home ever since. The Mai-Kai will
always continue to be that home for the many villagers that have
attended since 2003 to experience an event that has hosted thousands of
Tikiphiles from all over the world. We feel honored to have accomplished
what we set out to do many years ago - to bring awareness to Tiki
palaces on the East Coast and to help in their preservation so that many
more generations are able to enjoy the spirit of Aloha."
In addition to live entertainment and food, Hukilau 2014 will feature symposiums by Tiki historian Jeff "Beachbum" Berry, Philip Greene, co-founder of the Museum of the American Cocktail in New Orleans and author of the critically-acclaimed "To Have and Have Another - A Hemingway Cocktail Companion", and Noted tattoo artist and historian Paul Roe.
There will also be a treasures bazaar filled with exotic artifacts, retro-themed merchandise, antiques and collectibles in the Bahia Mar's giant Commodore Ballroom, and a special Jungle Queen cruise on June 13.
Tickets for Hukilau events are sold a la carte and in packages and start at $25 for an evening pass on Wednesday, plus individual Thursday, Friday and Sunday events at The Mai-Kai. The Big Kahuna pass is $150 and includes nearly all events, except for symposiums. Tickets are on sale at thehukilau.com.
The final schedule of events has not been finalized, but stay tuned to Clean Plate Charlie for more information, as we receive it.
