Palm trees and beer. Kind of our signature down here.

The veritable beerfest. As the weather improves, it's become more and more pleasant to spend a couple of hours outside drinking a lot of craft and imported beer. And while most beer festivals focus on a solid spread of beer producers from across the country and around the world, this weekend one can expect to find a beer festival that's a little more local.

Enter the first South Florida Brewers Guild Festival. This celebration of all things Florida-based is the new sister event to the long running Florida Brewer's Guild Beer Fest held every March in Tampa.

The South Florida Brewers Guild Festival will be held this weekend, November 2nd, at 2pm at Intracoastal Park in Boynton Beach, home to Florida Brewers Guild current president, and owner of Due South Brewing, Mike Halker.

"The Tampa festival has been such a success for us and folks really seem to enjoy tasting the beers from around the State," Halker said. "So we felt it shouldn't be confined to the Tampa area. In addition to this festival in November, we expect to have another festival in Jacksonville next year. Of course, we'll continue to do the festival in Tampa as well."

The list of brewers is extensive, and will showcase a lot of Florida breweries that do not make their way down to our neck of the Sunshine State. How extensive, you might ask? Well, how about a list?

  • 7venth Sun Brewing
  • Alligator Brewing
  • Barrel of Monks Brewing
  • Barley Mow Brewing
  • Big Bear Brewing
  • Bold City Brewery

Some notable inclusions that will be available for sampling are Jacksonville's buzzed-about Green Room Brewing, Tallahassee's recently expanded Proof Brewing, and upcoming Boca Raton based Belgian-focused Barrel of Monks Brewing (try the tripel if it's available, it's delicious).

Advance tickets to the event, being held rain or shine, are $40 plus tax, and can be ordered online. Or, for you luddites, you can attempt to show up and buy admission at the door, but it'll cost you a little extra; $50. Of course, what beer festival would be complete without some class warfare, so VIP tickets, which get you in the door an hour early with complementary hor d'oeuvres from the participating food trucks and special parking privileges, will run $75 a person, with a limit to the first 100 guests. As before, you can order your tickets on Ticketbud.

The Intracoastal Park is located at 2240 N. Federal Highway in Boynton Beach. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m., rain or shine, and you must be 21 or over to attend. Visit floridabrewersguild.org, or call 561-742-6650.
