Clay Conley Teams With Guest Chefs Jamie DeRosa, Zach Bell, and More for No Kid Hungry Dinner on Sunday

Nowadays, most of us go to restaurants for the chefs.

Sure, the atmosphere may be nice, the service impeccable, the drinks could be made just right; however, we're living in the era of the celebrity chef.

We want to eat from a big name, the same way we want to watch films with movie stars. That's just the way it works.

If you're looking to knock dining on a famous chef's cuisine off your list -- and throw down some cash for charity -- two-times James Beard nominee Clay Conley is hosting a No Kid Hungry Dinner this Sunday night at Buccan.

We spoke to participating chef Jamie DeRosa of Tongue & Cheek about the event.

This Sunday at 6 p.m., Conley is bringing together DeRosa, Zach Bell of Addison Reserve Country Club, Jennifer Reed of the Sugar Monkey, Victor LaPlaca of Isola Trattoria & Crudo Bar in New York, and Nicholas Stefanelli of Bibiana in Washington, D.C., for a multicourse meal with cocktail reception to start.

Just last week, Conley teamed up with DeRosa for a fully collaborative dinner at Tongue & Cheek. Where that event focused on bringing two chefs together for each dish, this one differs in that each chef will prepare one course that represents his or her signature style.

"I've been a fan of Clay [Conley] for quite some time," said DeRosa. "We met at Cochon, where we were both judging a few years back. I've been wanting to work with him ever since."

Like Conley, DeRosa has been working with Share Our Strength for quite some time -- he's about five or six years in. Although last week was the first time the pair had worked together, they've known each other for quite some time.

According to DeRosa, charity events have become an important part of being a chef these days.

"Being a chef means a number of things," he said. "You not only have to cook well but you have to be a smart businessman, be part of the community, and give back. You have to give back to the community and the community we want to surround ourselves with; Clay has a great name with amazing accolades. To position ourselves with people we believe in like that and with a charity that is so important is what it's all about."

The evening will feature silent and live auctions for culinary experiences and getaways.

Tickets for the event cost $200 per person.
