Pairings lets you explore the best of Broward in one evening.
The Broward County Convention Center will turn into foodie central this Thursday evening, when New Times' Pairings takes over.

On Thursday, September 26 from 7 to 10 p.m., your favorite Broward restaurants like El Jefe Luchador, Market 17, Rebel House, Tap 42, and Steak 954 will tempt you with delicious food -- each paired with wines carefully curated by Wine Watch wine boutique.

There's also a beer garden, beer and food pairings, crafted cocktails, and live entertainment, making Pairings one of the best evenings -- and values -- of the year.

General admission tickets are $45 in advance, and VIP tickets (which get you in to the fun an hour early, at 6 p.m. and allow you access to the special VIP area) are only $80. Visit ticketfly.com to purchase online, and use code "PAIRINGS" at checkout, and take $10 off your general admission tickets!

Want a pair of tickets but the dog ate your credit card? We have one last pair of General Admission tickets to give away to one of our readers.

Since Halloween is right around the corner, tell us why you want to "scare up" a pair of free tickets by telling us the scariest thing that's ever happened to you! Did you encounter a ghost? Were you stranded on Mount Everest with a snowstorm approaching? Did you run out of beer at a party?

Simply tell us in the "comments" section of this blog post your most terrifying experience -- and be sure to leave an email address, Facebook, or Twitter account so we can contact you if you win. Scare the pants off of us, and you'll win the tickets!

We'll announce the winner tomorrow at noon -- and your tickets will be at will call at the event! Updated: Congrats to Elisa. Your "furry tale" was more startling than frightening! You won the tickets to Pairings.

True story (as ridiculous as it seems): The scariest thing that has ever happened to me was about two years ago. My boyfriend and I were on our way back home from a little day-cation in Vero and decided to stop at Delray Beach to pop open a bottle of wine and just enjoy the peacefulness of the beach at night. Keep in mind that as far as we could tell, the beach was completely empty at the time. It was probably around 11pm or so and were sitting there drinking and laughing when we notice a light down the beach a little ways. Close enough that you can tell its a light but too far to make out who or what it's coming from. As we continue to watch this strange light come closer it starts to zig zag along the shoreline. Up and down, left and right, at what appears to be a pace too fast for a normal person walking on the beach. As it approaches us rapidly, we can finally make out the shape of not one, but an entire conga line of small people in hooded white outfits. At this point we are freaking out thinking out thinking we've stumbled upon some midget neo-nazi ritual and were about to get assaulted by them. But as the figures got closer, they took a sharp, last minute turn away from us and sped off back south down the beach, until they and the light they carried disappeared. To this day we have no clue what happened that night or if we really saw what we saw. Needless to say, we were pretty shaken up after that and I haven't been to the beach after dark since. Thanks for considering us for the tickets, we love New Times!!
