It's been a growing movement in cities across the country.

Where pub crawls were once all the rage -- and they still are for a certain age bracket -- eating tours have now become the new in thing.

Rather than stumble around getting sloshed like a bunch of frat boys on spring break, dish crawls are focused on more-sophisticated endeavors, such as stuffing your face. And hey, you're walking off the calories; exercise, right?

The third Dishcrawl to hit Fort Lauderdale is coming up in October, and this time it will be touring up and down the beach.

After hitting up downtown Fort Lauderdale for its two previous events, Dishcrawl is moving on to sandier grounds at 7 p.m. on October 9. The crawl will be stopping in four oceanfront restaurants, all of which will be kept top secret until the night of the event. The meetup location will be divulged 48 hours in advance through social media.

At each spot, chefs and management will greet participants to introduce themselves and talk about the restaurants, the fare, and their overall concepts.

Founded by CEO Tracy Lee, the concept focuses on introducing guests to new restaurants and points of interest in their city. Starting on the West Coast, Dishcrawl has spread to cities across North America such as San Jose, San Francisco, New York, Montreal, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.

"This Dishcrawl will be different because it will be right on the beach in October," said Dishcrawl Ambassador Rebecca Shapiro. "Hopefully, we will have some cooler weather; the idea is that this will be an ideal example of why we all live in South Florida: the beach, the cool weather, and the amazing food."

The cost to attend is $45 per person.
