Ten Best South Florida Food Trucks
When you were a kid, there was something immensely exciting about playing in the front yard and hearing the sweet song of the ice cream truck making its way around.

Sure you could have bought those crappy desserts at any old convenience store, but there was something special about chasing down the moving vehicle, inhaling the fumes of diesel, and taking the first bite of that $1.50 treat.
As is usually the case, as you grew older, your level of skepticism -- and snobbery -- expanded. Food trucks became "roach coaches" filled with cheap -- and possibly salmonella-tainted -- food that tasted somewhere along the lines of cardboard and rat on a stick.
Then, one day, that was no longer the case. As the economy tanked, so did restaurant start-ups, but some crafty individuals decided to pack up their knives and fill their trucks with gourmet delicacies ranging from fried bacon and cupcakes to eggplant meatballs and hummus plates.
And quite frankly: We think it's freaking awesome. With food-truck roundups taking place most days of the week -- somewhere in South Florida -- there's always an option for divergent diets among friends when going out to eat.
Unfortunately, with that many options, it's kind of hard to pick. To help in your decision-making, we decided to bring you the ten best food trucks in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Eggstatic Food Truck
The first eggcentric food truck to grace the landscape of the South Florida rolling restaurant scene, Eggstatic serves eggscellent ethical options at all times of the day and night. Based at the Satori building (1020 NE 12th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale) during the week and Marando Farms every Saturday, the breakfast mobile focuses on serving internationally inspired fare with ethically conscious ingredients. Menu itemsuse as much organic, non-GMO, and humanely raised meats as owner Diana Lichter can find. Try "That's All Yolks," falafel and fried egg on a torpita (a cross of a tortilla and pita) with hummus, feta, tomatoes, green peppers, and sunflower seeds; or "Chegg It Out," Buffalo chicken and blue cheese dressing with scrambled egg patty and chopped celery on a homemade cheddar buttermilk biscuit. Rumor has it you can't find ethical food on the go -- that's why rumors generally prove to be untrue.
9. Nacho Bizness
A staple in the food-truck circuit and overall Fort Lauderdale lunch scene, this truck can frequently be found serving tacos just steps from downtown or on 17th Street. Our pick for Best Taco - 2011, this place offers creative, internationally inspired tacos that span the globe. Take the Yum Yum, for example, spicy Korean pulled pork topped with refreshing chilled cucumbers; the Marley combines Jamaican jerk chicken with tropical pineapple slaw; and the Rodeo mixes grilled skirt steak with black bean and corn salsa. For those looking for slightly less Mexican in this global mashup, salad, burritos -- no, they are not from south of the border -- and sliders are also available. It's cross-culturalization at its finest.
