Aleyda's Tex-Mex Restaurant Closed in May, Plans To Reopen in Northwood Village
A longtime West Palm Beach establishment, Aleyda's Tex-Mex Restaurant, closed its doors in May.
Nicole Danna Aleyda's closed in May after disputes with a new landlord forced them to close their doors after more than 30 years.
However, it wasn't due to a dismal economy, bad service or rising operational costs. Instead, it just didn't fit the property owner's new vision for the shopping center just west of I-95, which has seen major renovation over the past year.
Founder and owner, Aleyda Cardona, opened the eponymous Tex-Mex restaurant at 1890 Okeechobee Blvd. more than 30 years ago, and until recently was still part of the day-to-day operations of the West Palm Beach favorite known for its (live!) parrots, mega margaritas, and muraled walls.
Cardona has been cooking for Palm Beach County since the 1970s, humble beginnings that started with a food truck serving her homemade recipes. Eventually, she saved enough to open her now-iconic family restaurant, which closed its doors on May 12 -- Mother's Day.
According to Aleyda's co-owner, and Cardona's brother, Miguel Lopez, the abrupt shut-down was over a dispute with the property's new landlord, who plans to renovate the shopping center -- and the building that housed Aleyda's
But don't worry! You will be able to order up everything from the original menu once Aleyda's (hopefully) reopens in West Palm Beach's Northwood Village, the quaint shopping district in West Palm Beach. You'll find the new location housed just down the road from establishments like Relish, Cafe Centro and Jade. A space at 620 Northwood Road is being considered, and would include outdoor seating, something the original location did not have. Stay tuned to Clean Plate Charlie for updates.
Nicole Danna Aleyda's is planning to reopen on the west end of Northwood Road in West Palm Beach.
