If you haven't noticed, things have kind of thinned out around South Florida. The snowbirds have gone and the tourists are touring other, less humid parts of the country. Summer in South Florida is for Floridians -- those stalewart, sunburned, air-conditioning loving year-rounders who call this place home.

To show appreciation for the locals, many spots are starting up summer specials and events. D.b.a/ cafe, the New-York-by-way-of-Fort Lauderdale bistro, has just jumped on board with the summer festivities. The restaurant recently started up a new happy hour program, is preparing for a new lunch service, and is throwing a special, end of season Ommegang Game of Thrones dinner.

To celebrate the happiest hours of the day, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and everyday for lunch, d.b.a. is offering flights of beer -- which normally costs $10 a piece -- for $6. All craft beers will be on special for $5 and every week the restaurant will offer five wines for $5 a glass.

"Every week we are going to choose the wines and post them on facebook and twitter," said owner Tom Moynihan. "It will be two reds, two whites, and a sparkling wine."

Happy hour will be extended on Tuesday and Thursdays with half-off burgers and wings and two draft beers for $10 all day.

Moynihan is still hashing out the details, but happy hour tapas pairings will be available in the near future.

The weekly brown bag wine tasting on Wednesdays is also being reinvented. For $10, participants get five pours (two ounces each) of wines from a specific region.

"We're asking people to take notes and try to figure out the wines," said Moynihan. "If you figure it out, you get a prize. At the end, you can purchase the wines at a special discounted rate for that night."

On Wednesday, June 12, lunch service is starting up again. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, fresh juices, and other healthy options are going to be offered.

"The yoga studio [Barkan Method] is opening just a few doors down on June 15," said Moynihan. "We want to offer a healthy alternative that won't break the bank, but we'll also do things like burgers and wings for people who want them."

Coming up on Monday, June 9, the restaurant is teaming up with Ommegang Brewery to host a private beer dinner. To celebrate -- or mourn -- the end of Game of Thrones for the season, the dinner will feature the limited release Iron Throne Blonde Ale. The four-course dinner is $50 per person. RSVP is required.
