|How much sushi can you eat?|
The Sushi chain is hosting a Sushi Showdown on Sunday, April 7, at its Pembroke Pines and Palm Beach Gardens restaurants. The competition starts at 3 p.m. at both locations.
At each restaurant, 24 contestants will face off in college basketball style. That's right! The competition is organized via a bracket system. The first round will include two heats of 12 competitors to see who can consume the most uncut Tootsy Maki rolls (consisting of kani kama crab mix, shrimp, and cucumber) in three minutes. The top three competitors of each heat advance to the championship round.
The championship round will see the final six sushi warriors vying for the title by downing as many Tootsy Maki rolls as they can in five minutes.
For those of you doing the math -- that's eight minutes of eating a heck of a lot of sushi, people!
The grand-prize eater will win RA Sushi for a year (a dozen $50 gift certificates worth $600) and bragging rights as the baddest sushi eater -- ever! The second-place contestant will win a $100 RA Sushi gift certificate, third place receives a $50 gift certificate, and the fourth place runner-up will receive a $25 gift certificate. All competitors will get a fierce RA headband to wear with pride.
Contestants must be 18 or over, and entry is limited to the first 24 contestants at each location. Register by April 4 in person or by calling the restaurant.
If you simply want to watch the action, both locations are having food and drink specials, including $7 Tokyo Tussle rolls (cucumber and shrimp rolls topped with spicy shrimp); $6 throwdown rolls (cucumber and spicy tuna topped with red tempura bits); $6 half-court bombs (Red Bull and a shot of flavored vodka or Jägermeister); $7 Rim RAckers (Skyy vodka and Red Bull); and $5 free throw bombs (Kirin or Kirin Light).
