Joe's Seafood Shack Opens in Fort Lauderdale, Wants to Give You Crabs

|Follow the shark and get free snow crabs!|
To celebrate the new restaurant, Joe's Seafood Shack wants to give you crabs. The crabs, of course, come in the form of delicious edible denizens of the sea for which the seafood chain is famous. The first 100 guests on opening day will win free crab for a year. Each winner will receive coupons redeemable for one free bucket of snow crabs each month for a year.
In addition, the restaurant will hold a drawing for free crabs for life (that winner will receive a monthly free bucket of snow crabs for life). The grand-opening celebration is also a fundraiser, and Joe's Seafood Shack will be handing out coupons for free kids' meals, appetizers, and entrées in exchange for donations supporting Autism Speaks.
Donate $1 to the charity and you'll receive a coupon for a free kids' meal. A $5 donation will get you a free crazy-good crab dip, and a $10 donation will yield a free classic steam pot filled with Dungeness crab, snow crab, shrimp, and sausage.
At opening day, you can also meet Joe's giant shark, which is featured prominently in the restaurant's wacky commercials. The shark is on a statewide trek of all of Joe's Florida restaurants before landing in Fort Lauderdale in time for opening day.
The shark, hauled around on a tie-dye truck, is also making an appearance Thursday, March 14, at Joe's Crab Shack (4402 N. University Drive, Lauderhill) at 6 p.m. for a patio party. Besides a pretty good photo op with "Jaws," the party will have giveaways, and 50 lucky winners will receive free buckets of snow crabs for a year (one bucket per month). All winners must be 12 years of age or older.
The chain features a "100% Shore" menu, with more than 25 different crab items, including nine different steam pots -- each filled with different combinations of crab, shrimp, sausage, clams, lobster, or scallops. The Fort Lauderdale location will also feature some new items like a spicy citrus steam pot with crab and shrimp mixed with citrus and Tabasco; a third coast platter featuring blackened redfish; and Joe's Seafood Shack stuffers (clam shells stuffed with a mix of scallop, shrimp, and clam stuffing).
