Rye is one of those spirits that took a back seat for decades. A prohibition favorite, for ages the whiskey was solely designated to old men sitting in smoke-filled bars.
Like all things fashionable the former 'out' whiskey, has made its comeback. And quite frankly, we're pretty damned pleased about the the new 'in' trend. With that, we asked partner/bartender Charles Steadman of Lantana Jack's Bar and Grill
to divulge one of his favorite rye recipes: the Ginger in the Rye.
Ginger in the Rye
Menu Description: Fresh grated ginger and George Dickel No. 12 rye add a subtle spice to a classic Manhattan.
2 oz. George Dickel No. 12 Rye Whiskey
¾ oz. Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
Pinch of Grated Ginger
Garnish: Orange Peel
Step One: Combine Rye, Sweet Vermouth, Bitters, and Giner into a large mixing tin.
Step Two: Stir the mixture for 20 seconds.
Step Three: Double strain the drink into a rocks glass over ice.
Step Four: Garnish the drink with the orange peel.
Step Five: Drink and enjoy!
