South Florida Food & Drink Events This Weekend: Garlic Fest, Greek Festival, and More
2. Eating for a good cause (benefit dinners and special events)
February is prime time for non-profits and other charitable enterprises to go into fundraising mode. With that said, there are at least four events this weekend that involve food and drink, as well as raising some cash for South Florida organizations.
The Allianz Championship "Grapes on the Green" golf and wine outing to benefit Boca Raton Regional Hospital is 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Old Course at Broken Sound Golf Club in Boca Raton. Tickets are $85 per person. The event includes tastings from the private wine collections of various golf pros' vineyards and a view of the 18th green. Call 561-241-GOLF.
The Diamond Jubilee on Saturday night at the Lake Worth Playhouse will include cocktails, dining (catering is by Callaro's Steakhouse), dancing, and a silent auction to benefit the theater. Tickets to the Diamond Jubilee are $150 and the party is 7 to 10 p.m. Playhouse alum Burt Reynolds -- who recently recovered from serious illness -- will act as the guest of honor for the evening.
Burgers, Blue Jeans, and Bling -- planned for Saturday night at Our Backyard Museum (11701 NW 12th St. in Plantation) -- will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The event includes gourmet burgers and other restaurant tastings, plus drinks and museum access. Tickets are $125 for general admission or $200 for VIP. Call 305-766-2818. The event starts at 6 p.m.
Finally, the Gala in the Gardens is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Flamingo Gardens in Davie. The food and wine event benefits the gardens and the cost is $40 to $60. Call 954-473-2955. This is a 21-and-older event.
1. Garlic Fest
It's time for the stinky bulb to shine at the 14th Annual Delray Beach Garlic Fest. The celebration of food and music is 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Activities -- including the Garlic Chef Competition -- are held in downtown Delray Beach at Old School Square. Admission is $10 to $15.
