|Try some Metaxa, the traditional Greek brandy.|
Gyros, souvlaki, tyropita, fried cheese, dolmades, stuffed grape leaves. And ouzo -- how could we forget the ouzo! All that's left to say: Opa!
This weekend, celebrate the 3rd annual Flavors of Greece, Fort Lauderdale's first Greek food and drink tasting event organized by St. Demetrios Church.
The festival will run February 8-10 this year, once again set-up under a taverna-inspired tent outside the church where you can eat, drink and dance the day (and night) away.
The three-day event focuses on serving up an authentic Greek experience, with plenty of food and drink, as well as dancing and live entertainment.
Food will take center stage, however, with an indoor market selling Greek pastries and desserts (or glyka), and concession stands serving buffet-style fare and appetizers.

If you love Greek food, come with a big appetite. Larger entrée-style dishes like lamb shanks with orzo will be available ($10-$13), but we think the festival's plethora of small plates -- also known as mezethakia or appetizers priced between $3 to $7 -- are the best way to sample everything Flavors has to offer.
More interested in the drink? Take the opportunity to learn more about Greek wines and spirits from an expert, who will be on-hand to discuss the art of Greek wine-making. The bars will also be pouring plenty of beer, wine and liquor -- including ouzo and Metaxa, the Greek's traditional anise-flavored liquor and brandy.
Flavors charges a $5 admission fee to attend (children under 12 are free), and there will be a $1 parking fee with complimentary shuttle service from the Sears parking lot. For free entry the first day only, simply visit the event website
