Burt & Max's Opening Date Set for Mid-February
The restaurant world is full of uncertainty and one of the most unpredictable aspects is projecting an opening date for a new endeavor. It's a rare case of a restaurant or bar rolling out the welcome mat as quickly as they'd like. Ryan Sentz of Funky Buddha perhaps said it best when recently interviewed about the brewery's forthcoming facility in Oakland Park: When it comes to a big project, "there are lots of moving parts." ![]()
via Burt & Max's Facebook page Ahi tuna "poke" with avocado jam and crispy tarro chips is one of the dishes posted as a teaser on Facebook.
So it's not terribly surprising that the expected opening date for Burt & Max's in Delray Beach was pushed back from mid-December 2012 to mid-February 2013. For now, the tentative opening date is Friday, February 15, at 5 p.m. The date is subject to change, so don't go marking it in stone just yet.

New Times' writer Sara Ventiera ventured to the Burt & Max's construction site in November and got a look at the space-in-progress in the forthcoming Delray Marketplace plaza. The plaza, at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Lyons Road, also will house a movie theater and bowling alley, plus shops and other restaurants. Construction in the plaza could impact the proposed opening date for Burt & Max's.![]()

Burt & Max's is the latest joint project of South Florida restaurateurs Burt Rapoport and Dennis Max. The restaurant will carry some of the signature items from the menu at Max's Grille (a restaurant they developed together in the 90s), plus other "contemporary American cuisine" offerings.
Small/sharing plates will be priced from $9 to $16, with choices like sesame seared yellowfin tuna and short rib empanadas. Wood-fired pizzas will be $12 to $14, and entrees (like roasted half chicken and Southern-fried chicken and waffles) will be $18 to $28. A child's menu and healthy bites selections will be available.
The restaurants will be open daily for dinner and will offer a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, with a build-your-own bloody Mary bar.
