End of the World Party at Green Room in Fort Lauderdale
Pete R. via Flickr Creative Commons How many times do you suppose you're going to hear Michael Stipe sing "It's the End of the World as We Know It" on Friday?
T.S. Eliot famously mourned the world going out "not with a bang but a whimper." Well, the crew at the Green Room in Fort Lauderdale have no intentions of ringing in the apocalypse in such a Debbie Downer fashion. They've got a banging party lined up for Friday, December 21, 2012 (otherwise known as the date that everyone on Facebook won't stop talking about) and you're invited.
The date is significant -- or not, depending on how you look at it -- for being the day when the Mayan calendar ends. Some are clinging to the belief that this spells doom for humanity while most are just using it as an excuse to get balls-to-the-wall blitzed while partying into the wee hours of the morning. Assuming, of course, there is a next morning.
The party kicks off at 10 p.m. on Friday with no cover, and will rage on until 4 a.m. on Saturday. Drinks are two-for-one before midnight, and guest DJs Lady Anime and Machinist will join resident DJs LinderSMASH! and Kaos. The dress code -- or theme, rather -- is apocalypse chic. Think, sexy Mad Max, only, recently bathed and no weaponry. Bonus points for getting that Tina Turner/Thunderdome 'do.
