Whatever you want to call them, GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) or GE (Genetically Engineered) foods were kind of a big deal in 2012. It was the first year to see a ballot initiative requiring mandatory labeling on a state ballot for the Presidential election--in California, of course. Even though California's Proposition 37 may have failed, it most certainly has raised awareness to the issues surrounding GMOs and the lack of labeling of such foods.

Released earlier this year, Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of Our Lives based on Jeffrey M. Smith's 2007 book played a big part in the 2012 GMO debate. And an abridged version is currently available online--for free.

Jeffrey M. Smith, author of Seeds Of Deception, is one of the nation's most outspoken advocates to raise consumer awareness of the issues and effects of GMO foods--he's been on the Dr. Oz Show twice. Produced by the Institute for Responsible Technology, the film explores evidence of negative health effects resulting from consuming GMOs.

Aside from organized protests, call-in days, media outreach, and national days of action, many anti-GMO groups have used the film as a means of public education. Currently, a sixty minute abridged version of the eighty-five minute film is being aired on the
Institute for Responsible Technology's website here, until January 2.
