Plantation to Get a New Weekly Food Truck Rally Beginning in October
Mischa Grosvenor HipPops owner Tony Fellows will represent at the new weekly roundup.
The west side of Broward is always playing second fiddle to its beachside county cousin. But Steve Simon and the rest of the Food Truck Invasion team are looking to show a little love for folks west of I-95.
Beginning Tuesday, October 16, Plantation will have a new weekly food truck rally at Plantation Heritage Park. Sixteen trucks are slated to appear for the inaugural evening event.
"Food trucks have been in Broward for some time now but there really hasn't been a weekly venue that can accommodate large crowds on the western side," Simon said in an email on Wednesday.
"Sure, events have come up in Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs, and Davie, but none of them are regular weekly gigs," Simon said. "We want to have families come out and make this their Tuesday night tradition."
After a few years of growth in South Florida, is the food truck movement showing any signs of slowing? Not according to Simon, though he cites a need for a more consistent means of regulating the industry.
"The demand for food trucks continues to grow and certain areas like Plantation would embrace this weekday activity. The food truck movement is only getting stronger. Hopefully, local governments can adjust or put ordinances into place that can help the food truckers expand their reach," Simon said. "Miami-Dade has an ordinance specifically for food trucks."
In the meantime, what can you expect at the new weekly roundup in Plantation?
"We look forward to having a mixed rotation each week but some Broward Trucks might get their regular repeats when available," Simon said. The trucks scheduled to appear on October 16 include:
The Big Ragu
Cold Stone Creamery
Miami Spice Grill
Mobile Culinary Kitchen
Mojo on the Go
My Mad Scientist
Overload Extreme Food
The rally is 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Plantation Heritage Park. There's no cost to attend and a DJ will provide music.
