South Florida culture is deeply rooted in Latin American culture.

Which is why we're a little intrigued by the announcement of the opening of Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar at the Village of Gulfstream Park  this coming fall.

Why does the idea of a restaurant with influences from "Central & South America, Cuba, and the Caribbean" pique our curiosity?

Well, because this small restaurant chain hails from Cleveland.

Paladar, which translates to taste in English, opened its first restaurant in Cleveland in 2007. It then expanded to the Maryland area, with restaurants in Annapolis and North Bethesda.

The restaurant and rum bar features reasonably priced Latin dishes like ropa vieja ($17.95), pork tostones ($9.95), glazed pork cubano ($15.95), and slow-roasted mojo pork ($15.95). The rum bar features both cocktails like the mojito, caipirinha, and margarita and more than 50 rums.

Paladar is scheduled to open at the Village at Gulfstream Park in late fall. With neighbors that include an Irish pub, a Tuscan bistro, and a Mexican restaurant (all chains), Paladar just might succeed... especially if it makes a good mojito.
