The Drinking Olympics Begin at America's Backyard

Go for the Gold!

We're nearly a week into the Olympic games and you've probably started to notice something -- they're kind of boring. During the endless replays, melodramatic athlete bios, and superfluous commentator banter, you may have caught yourself daydreaming about what it would be like to stand on that podium while "The Star Spangled Banner" blares in the background. Perhaps you've even dusted off your old yearbook to relive your glory days as the star athlete at your high school.

Sadly, we won't be cheering your name as you badminton your way to Olympic gold, and let's be honest -- you're no Usain Bolt.That said, Usain won't be bringing home any medals for polishing off the most chicken wings or for crushing the competition at beer pong, but you can at the 2012 Drinking Olympics at America's Backyard.

From August 1 to 10, America's Backyard in Fort Lauderdale will host the 2012 Drinking Olympics.

Each night, "athletes" will compete in six events including Olympic Hula-Hoop, drunk hopscotch, and a slider-eating contest to qualify for a shot at the finals on August 10.

Winners from each night's events will be put into teams of six for the championship. Qualifying rounds begin on Wednesday, August 1, at 8 p.m. and will be held August 1 to 4, 8, and 9. Registration for each event is $10, which includes the beer or liquor you'll need for the game.

Finally, all those years of playing flip cup and siphoning crappy beer through a questionably clean funnel will finally pay off as you drink your way to Olympic gold! In your face, Usain!
