Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day: Celebs Weigh In

The Muppets protest Chick-fil-A.
Mike Huckabee has called for fans of "free speech" to celebrate today, August 1, as Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. As the Fox News pundit, Southern Baptist minister, and politician said on his website and Facebook page:

"Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1. Too often, those on the left make corporate statements to show support for same sex marriage, abortion, or profanity, but if Christians affirm traditional values, we're considered homophobic, fundamentalists, hate-mongers, and intolerant. This effort is not being launched by the Chick Fil-A company and no one from the company or family is involved in proposing or promoting it."

No doubt which side he's on. In protest, an "eat at KFC day" is being planned for today, with a virtual "I don't appreciate Chick-fil-A day" being formed on Facebook (just join if you plan on never eating at the chicken sandwich chain again). Not doing anything this Friday? Take your (same sex) date over to the restaurant and show a public display of affection for "National same-sex kiss day."

To mark these occasions, we've come up with a list of celebrities and other notables who have "come out" on this issue.

For Chick-fil-A

Mike Huckabee loves both chicken sandwiches and traditional family values so much, he's the "brains" behind Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. By the way, the former Arkansas governor and marathon runner also doesn't really believe in evolution, so don't tell him those chickens he's eating are really tiny dinosaurs, because he may just choke on his chicken.

Sarah Palin is always one to "chirp" in to a controversial issue. Last week, she and husband Todd ate at a Texas Chick-fil-A, where she posted a pic on her Facebook page with the caption, "to support a great business." By the way, there are about 24,000 comments by God-fearing people, many of them hateful.

Best-selling author Dave Ramsey tweeted "I LOVE Chick-Fila food & @DanCathy is a personal friend. I will be buying a biscuit on Aug. 1 to tell them I love them. Join me."

Chick-fila apparently set some sort of world record for amount of chicken sold in one day.

My beef is the fact that it is called"marriage". A "civic union" that is legally binding is what needs to be established. I feel for gays that get mistreated because of sexual orientation. "Marriage" is a holy sacrament that was established by God; for man and woman to become one and procreate. This is not possible for man and man and woman and woman to do alone. Being gay is not a choice, neither is being blind, or born without legs, but it is also not normal. We as a civil people accept one another for who we are, but I am tired of being told this is the way I am supposed think.

If one of my children was born gay, it would be hard to deal with, just like if they were born Downs Syndrome or something else, but I would love them unconditionally. That being said, I would have a problem with him/her ramming their life style down my throat.  Your boss made some very big mistakes.... if his partner wanted him to have everything should he die, there should have been a will, he should also have been named beneficiary of insurance policies. This was not a result of marriage not being recognized, but of poor financial planning. They were long term boyfriend/boyfriend. The exact same result would have occurred if it was boyfriend and girl friend if a will was not made.

Very sad that there are those who want to legislate people being happy with one another.  This practice of not recognizing gay marriage ruins people.  My old boss, a man I consider like a second father, was destroyed when his partner of many years died.  He lost just about everything and is now trapped in a job he hates because his partners family took everything because the state refused to acknowledge the fact they were together for decades and had shared everything.  For all intent and purpose, they were married.

Just because your mythology frowns on homosexuality, does not mean you can tell people what to do.

And the irony?  All those "political figures" who are supporting Chick-fil-A are ALSO the ones that are supposedly all about the "freedom for all".

Just shows that they are only for the freedom of those that are just like they are.

Marriage is a religious union between man and woman. Gays have every right to be united as a couple and married in the civil sense, but religiously only man and woman can be married and receive the sacrament. Otherwise God would of made it possible for same sex unions the ability to have children. This is America, land of the free, I will be supporting Chick-fil-A and the right to oppose gay marriages.

Huckabee was Arkansas governor, not Alabama.

@t18tranny What happened was the will was nullified by his partners family so they were able to take everything.  If their relationship was recognized, this would not have been possible.  His only mistake was thinking that his very loving relationship was a valid one in the eyes of the state.

I just returned from lunch at Chick-fil-A. Extremely busy, which I expected. There seems to be many people that have a problem with not allowing people have freedom to have an opinion or religious freedom. Once again, I don't have an objection to people being gay, I was born straight and I can't help that I like the opposite sex just like gay were born that way. I accept people for who that are, but I DO have a problem with people trying to force an issue I don't agree with on me, especially at work. The American people are tired of PC running their lives. Every nation has their share of A' holes and we all tolerate them, but went they start interfering with our lives and freedoms we will fight back!

@smdrpepper Well, if that be the case and there was a valid Will, it is a sad injustice.

@t18tranny Again I do not understand the "forcing an issue on you that you don't agree with". Boycott C-F-A or don't boycott them but I would hope people would like to know that their money spent helps support certain issues in any direction. There are alternative choices for products and I would hope that info such as this would enter into the decision process. When C-F-A donates to hate groups, I want to know that. My taste buds do not overwhelm my decision making process, but then that is just me.

@KennyPowersII What do you think of GLBT month? Should there be a oversexed straight anglosaxon( OSA) month? Segregation is the downfall of society, but we still have all this different months that exclude people. We are all Americans with different cultures and beliefs. I don't push my beliefs on others, why are they pushing their beliefs on me?

 @KennyPowersII

Emails sent, signs made, main kiosk on Federal property being used to state "Celebrate GLBT Month in the month of June" My tax dollars pay for it all. That's what I mean by "force on me".  I just want to go to work, do my job, deal with the normal Political BS and go home. Sorry if I come off as a hater, cause I'm not. Just an American tired of everyone complaining about how crappy this country is, when in reality, it is the one of the greatest nations in the world. This country owes no one! I support the freedoms that every American is given.  You are for gay marriage, and I am opposed. I can accept that. The CFA is not about that, it is about the right to have an opinion and be non-discrimative while having that believe. CFA will always serve whoever, whenever, but stand by their beliefs. I hold that honesty and integrity with the highest of honor. God Bless us all and this nation.

@t18tranny GLBT month is fine with me as it doesn't affect me in any way. and as long as it serves a purpose for those who observe and participate in its events, party on. I don't understand how or why you believe "they" are pushing their beliefs on you, but then I also do not understand why it offends you.
