|The two-meal-worthy sandwiches at Talia's Tuscan Table are cheap and outrageously delicious. |
It becomes apparent rather quickly when one enters Talia's Tuscan Table in Boca Raton that this place isn't the product of a corporate formula. Nor, is it a destination for fine dining. This reality has been known to turn off some diners who don't know how to react to Talia's lack of table service, the walls plastered with Polaroid shots of cute girls posing with the restaurant's staff, or Chef Andy's blunt-but-affable demeanor.
But it's these details -- in addition to little eccentricities like a self-serve keg of cheap beer and the eternally-looped Godfather movie playing on the dining room's TV -- that contributed to Talia's winning the title of Best Inexpensive Italian Restaurant 2012 in the recently released New Times' Best Of Broward/Palm Beach issue. But what really ensured the victory for Talia's (in addition to bargain-bin prices) are the restaurant's incredible "true hero" sandwiches.
For less than ten bucks, one can easily get two meals out of one of chef Andy's indulgent sandwich creations. Roughly the size of a brick and crammed with all manner of veggies, meats, and housemade mozzarella, the heroes are easily among the best in all of South Florida. The pastas, pizzas, and daily lunch buffet all are good bets, but those sandwiches? Fuhgeddaboudit.
