It's Summer; Drink Riesling!
The wine bar proprietors teamed up with the International Riesling Foundation (yep, it's a thing) and declared this summer the Summer of Riesling. (Although it sounds like every summer might be the Summer of Riesling if they have their way.) Through September 21, participating stores and restaurants vow to carry at least three Rieslings by the glass. Your job? Become a Riesling expert while drinking as much of it as humanly possible. In between sips, you'll probably learn that the grape originated in the Rhine Valley of Germany and that the wine is equally balanced and complex. The party is not complete without some party favors, so you'll enjoy freebies like T-shirts, stickers, pins, and fake tattoos with the wine.
Now, onto the actual drinking. A full roster of participating restaurants can be found on their website, but for those living in Palm Beach County, here are the spots to hit up: the Rustic Cellar, the House Vinothek, and the BallenIsles Country Club. Deb Brubaker, proprietor of the Rustic Cellar, promises an introduction of new Rieslings each week, with one or two on their daily half-off happy hour, and an all Riesling tasting in mid-July. No restaurants or stores in Broward have "officially" signed up, but unsanctioned events may pop-up.
Cheers, fellow Acidhounds, and spread the word.
