Steak 954 Named Wine Spectator's 100 Best Wine Restaurants

Steak 954 is the place for wine.

Wine Spectator has come out with their annual listing of the 100 best wine restaurants in the country and Steak 954 has been named of the the top picks.

The Stephen Starr steakhouse at the W Fort Lauderdale hotel joins such notable restaurants as Le Bernadin, The Lambs Club, Per Se, and Minetta Tavern as a top choice for wine enthusiasts.

The only other restaurant in south Florida to make the list was db Bistro Moderne in Miami.
Steak 954's general manager, Peter Ortino told New Times that even though the restaurant has over 350 labels on their wine list, the wine program focuses on a core group of well-priced international wines designed to pair well with the food.

Wine enthusiasts aren't left out of the equation, either.  In addition to their selection of good, accessible wines, beverage manager Sy Ali can assist a guest in picking out a rare vintage from the restaurant's "cult" selection.

If you want to experience Steak 954's wine program for yourself, their Wine Wars dinner series is a fine way to go. The next dinner is Thursday, July 12th, with Bordeaux battling Meritage for your approval. A five-course meal prepared by chef Jason Lanson Smith including yellowfin tuna tartar, charred prime strip, broiled tuna au Poivre, and Colorado lamb porterhouse, will be presented with two different wines for each course -- one Bordeaux, one Meritage. It's up to guests to decide which one pairs best. 

The dinner starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $85 per person, not including tax and tip. Reservations are suggested.
