Publix at Village Commons is getting a complete do over.
The Publix at Village Commons in West Palm Beach is getting much more than a facelift. The 40,000 square foot supermarket is slated to be torn down completely, with a larger market to be built in its place.

Woolbright Development, owners of the 23 year-old multi-use shopping center, is awaiting final plans from Publix headquarters, but expects planning to take another six - nine months before the store closes during demolition and rebuilding, at an estimated cost of around $4 million. The new Publix is expected to open by the end of 2013.

The construction could affect other tenants of the center, which houses Duffy's, Panera Bread, and Taco Vida, which is scheduled to open any day.  Another anchor, Outback Steakhouse, closed in 2011.  That space remains vacant.

The shopping center, however, is working hard to attract and keep customers with events like food truck roundups and a social media presence on Facebook.
