When the New Times' Best of Broward/Palm Beach 2012 issue went live this week it became clear that the publication has a lot of love for breakfast in its many incarnations: Lavish or spartan, cheap or gourmet, a multitude of breakfast choices found a place in the New Times' good graces.
Taking top overall honors for Best Breakfast in 2012 was Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House, home to the incredibly large -- and simply incredible -- skillet pancake and farm-fresh eggs served with delectable slices of Gran Forno bread. The restaurant recently added dinner to its repertoire and only time will tell if its as much a winner as the earlier-in-the-day meals. Read more about the Best Breakfast winner here
For those frugal diners in South Florida, check out the Best Cheap Breakfast winner Diner 24 in Wilton Manors. Deceptively named (it's only open 24 hours on the weekend and closes at midnight during the week) this greasy spoon got a nod for enormous omelets and home fries, plus the biscuits with jelly. In the event that late-night boozing is on the docket for the weekend, consider spending the "day after" at the Floridian, winner of the Best Place to Cure a Hangover. The decor is nothing to behold, but your hazy eyes won't be able to focus on that anyhow. It's the piles of greasy food/fuel that need your attention. for its incredible croissant and bread basket and Way Beyond Bagels taking Best Bagels
