Uncle Julio's New Taco Tuesday: $1 Tacos That Aren't Totally Tiny
| It's hard to tell from this photo, but these $1 tacos are certainly larger than a matchbook. |
Last Tuesday, April 17, I met a friend at Uncle Julio's for a Tax Day decompression lunch. At $1 a pop, we weren't expecting anything more than an appetizer-sized portion from the promo. We ordered a side of guacamole expecting to need the extra sustenance. Thankfully, the restaurant doesn't take the alliteration a step further by serving only "teeny tiny tacos." For us, two tacos each constituted more than a meal's worth. They're not mammoth by any means, but they're not some puny little two-bite snack size either.
The $1-per-taco deal is good on chicken and beef tacos and lasts all day, including through the restaurant's new happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. If you're vegetarian or not in the mood for meat, order the tacos with black beans. The refried beans aren't vegetarian, according to our server, so the tacos we had were filled with seasoned whole black beans.
When all was said and done, the side of guacamole cost more than our four tacos combined. Lesson being: Next time, skip the sides and order one more taco and you'll have cash left over for a margarita or two.
