52. Pretzels With Beer Cheese and Deviled Ham at The Foxy Brown
![]() |
These homemade pretzels served warm remind us of being a kid. Perhaps because they're edible utensils meant to be dipped, smeared, and slathered. It's a dish that requires a diner to play with his food.
Grainy mustard, lager-spiked cheese, and deviled ham serve as three condiments for three pairings. I'm partial to the ham, at one point slicing a stick like a roll to make a deviled ham finger sandwich.
The kitchen at The Foxy Brown is helmed by Christian Claussen, who helped open the sibling to Coconuts and G&B Oyster Bar. The restaurant quietly opened in mid-March.
Other nods to nostalgia on his menu include clams and brat plates or Mabel's chicken with homemade spatzle. Deviled eggs, mac and cheese, fried green beans, and slaw play up the sides.
Desserts are mid-century suburban classics. In addition to milk shakes, Foxy Brown offers root-beer floats and shortcake with in-season berries.
