Does Your Chili Rock? Prove It at the Seventh-Annual Junior League Chili Cook-Off on April 21

Competitive cooking: It doesn't get anymore American than that, does it?

Everyone loves to brag that his chili (or ribs, hamburger, etc.) is the best. But it helps to be able to point to a first-place finish in a public contest to drive that point home. The Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale is hosting its seventh-annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, April 21, at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale, giving amateur cooks a chance to battle for that honor.

Junior League members, in addition to friends and family, are invited to sign up to compete in the cook-off, from noon to 3 p.m. All manner of recipes are welcome, including traditional, veggie, turkey, or your own crazy concoction.

The winner of the event will be crowned the "JL Chili Master Chef." Participants should bring a serving spoon and any tasty toppings that you think will give you a competitive edge. If you plan to enter, sign up online and arrive at the venue between 11:45 a.m. and noon the day of the competition.

Even if you don't feel like cooking or competing, you can participate by sampling the offerings and helping to vote for a winner. Sides and desserts will be provided.
