Florida Craft Beer Watch: Holy Mackerel Brewer Visits World of Beer Tonight

Holy Mackerel founder and head brewer Bobby Gordash will visit World of Beer in Coconut Creek tonight for a mini-tap-takeover and meet-and-greet with fans of the Florida-brewed beer. Gordash and World of Beer will serve Panic Attack, Special Golden, and Mack in Black in addition to a special limited-edition batch of Holy Wit, a double Belgian Wit with an 8.6 percent ABV.

Gordash said these types of events give small crafters like Holy Mackerel a chance to spread the word about their product, as well as get fans' feedback on limited-edition brews like the Holy Wit.

"It's good to get people's opinions -- especially our fans," Gordash said, adding that this feedback can influence the decision of whether to add a beer to regular rotation.

Holy Mackerel, based in Fort Lauderdale, continues to actively pursue the option of opening a nano-brewery/tasting room that would be open to the public. The company currently is exploring spaces in South Florida and determining the scale of the project. Gordash said that although traveling around the region for tasting events is a great way to get the word out, it would be nice to have a home base where craft beer fans could try the products in person.

"I'm really itching to get back into the brewing," said Gordash, who has been busy with the promotion end of things as of late and is looking forward to "getting [his] hands dirty again."

The tap takeover and brewer meet-and-greet is 7 to 9 p.m.
