Try some simit at the Turkish Festival.
The sixth-annual Turkish Festival is bringing traditional costume, dance, and food to Huizenga Plaza (Bubier Park) this weekend.

The event, sponsored by the Anatolia Center, is turning downtown Fort Lauderdale into a microcosm of Turkey, complete with an entire two-day schedule of Turkish dancing, music, food, and art.
Guests can enjoy Turkish food like gyros, shish kebob, and simit (a Turkish bagel loaded with nutty sesame seeds).  Take a breaks with some Turkish coffee or tea with some baklava.

Interactive cooking classes will teach you how to make dishes like manti, yogurt with hot pepper and melted butter and lahmacun, a flatbread topped with spiced ground meat.

Kids activities include face painting, cotton candy making, and a free bounce house.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. today, Saturday, February 18 and from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, February 19. Admission is $5.
