JA World Uncorked! II Is Saturday at Broward College -- Do You Have Your Tickets?

It's time to wash down gourmet burgers with fancy cocktails.

​Junior Achievement World Uncorked! II is just days away, but you can still nab general-admission tickets for the upscale fundraiser (sorry; VIP tickets have sold out) on Saturday at Broward College in Coconut Creek.

Not sure what Uncorked! entails? A quick rundown of the event after the jump.

Because South Florida is still riding high on the gourmet burger trend, it makes sense that the evening will feature a burger battle hosted by Burger Beast. Contenders are Burger Bar by Chef Allen, Charm City Burgers, Elevation Burger, Rok:Brgr, and Quickie's.

You also can sample dishes prepared by chefs from South Florida restaurants like 11th Street Annex, the Capital Grille, Elevation Burger, Morton's the Steakhouse, Timpano Italian Chop House, and Yolo. Publix Apron's Cooking School will give demos throughout the night and former New Times critic John Linn, now with Brown's Distributing, will provide guidance on craft beer pairings.

Of course, there are a few competitive elements to the fundraiser. A handful of culinary students from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale will participate in a bakery showdown for a chance at a scholarship. And New Times will host the Clean Plate Charlie Awards with a panel of judges awarding various accolades, like "best plate" and "most unique bite." (Fans get to vote on the winner of the dessert competition.) Since the theme of the evening is a jazzy speakeasy, Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida will man a bathtub gin bar, and entertainment is provided by a jazz band. Tickets for the event -- which runs 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. -- are $150 per person and can be picked up at will call. Proceeds benefit scholarships for Junior Achievement.
