Chef
Steven Zobel is the chef behind East End Brasserie at the Atlantic Resort & Spa, the subject of
this week's restaurant review. Having moved here from New York this past summer, Zobel earned accolades during his tenure at Triomphe from the
New York Times and
New York Magazine.
Despite long hours on the line and his brief residence in South Florida, Zobel has already ferreted out a handful of interesting restaurants for after-hours eats and nights off. Read on for his picks.
Silver Pond Chinese Restaurant in Lauderhill "This restaurant is out-of-this-world good," said Zobel. "I'm coming from New York and this is one of the best Chinese lobster dishes I have ever had."
"I always get the chicken-fried steak and eggs. My 5-year-old son swears by the grilled cheese," said the chef of this diner that's been around for over 50 years. "It's what a diner should be."
"The papaya Valencia is a solid meal for a solid price," he said of the small-plates Cuban restaurant.
"This is my neighborhood bakery. The coffee and croissants are topnotch. And the people who work there are great," he said of this bakery that has earned kudos for "best bakery" and "best croissant" from
New Times in years past.
