Turkey Call: Order This Week For the Best Birds

​We're down to the wire, home cooks: the time is now to order your turkey. What's the rush, you say? If you're looking for a fresh, organic, free range, well-loved turkey from a good home that's especially plump, it's yours provided you're thinking ahead. We've done some comparison shopping to give you the run down of what to order when.

By Today's End
The Delray Green Market is taking orders for Heritage Hen Farm holiday turkeys, local birds born and raised in Boyton Beach. A $40 deposit means you'll have a bird ready for pickup on Sunday, November 20th. If you want to get crazy, pick up some barely legal raw dairy at the Green Market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Stop by Whole Foods from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for "A Taste of Thanksgiving" and "Fall Fruits and Vegetables" to sample eats and place orders. Turkeys can be ordered via the holiday hotline through November 20 at 954-565-5655. Fresh organic, brined, or kosher birds range from $2.29 to $3.99 a pound.

ASAP
Smitty's Old Fashioned Butcher Shop is selling natural turkeys for $3.99 a pound and organic turkeys for $5.49 a pound, in sizes that range from 8 to 33 pounds. ASAP is the butcher's request. Call 954-771-9341 for orders.

By November 18
The Meating Place in Boca Raton is accepting orders through Friday for all-natural, fresh turkeys from Amish Country Farms. Turkeys run $2.99 a pound and run in four sizes: 10 to 12 pounds, 12 to 14 pounds, 18 to 20 pounds, and 24 to 26 pounds. Call 561-241-3858 for orders.

Running Late?
Mediterranean Market accepts orders for turkeys through November 22. Smithfield's All-Natural Turkeys are $2.89 a pound and Bell & Evans runs $4.99 a pound. Turkeys will be available for pickup on Wednesday. Call 954-463-1212 to place an order.
