Broward County Fair: Time for Fried Food and Carnival Rides

The fair -- where you eat fried stuff, then pay to get spun around.

​The fair's in town. Time to load up on food you would never normally eat on the drunkest of escapades and then allow yourself to be spun high into the air in a giant erector set, operated by a guy who resembles an extra in AMC's The Walking Dead.

The 35th-annual Broward County Fair, located in Pembroke Pines, features the usual fair entertainment -- livestock contests and demonstrations, rides, live music, and some other acts and shows that we're looking forward to -- like the live frontier wolf show, the dog magic show, and the guillotine!

And then there's the food. If it can go in the fryer and be doused with either powdered sugar or ketchup, it's fair-worthy. Last year, we sampled fried butter, fried pickles, fried buckeyes, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, pork parfaits, and fried Coca-Cola. This year, we're looking to cut to the chase and find the fried antacid.

The fair runs through November 27, and admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 3-11 (kids younger are free). For $35, you'll get admission and a wristband for unlimited rides. There are many daily specials, and hours change daily, so it's best to check the fair's site for deals and hours.
