Blind Wine Chick Alex Elman Wine Tastings at Whole Foods Market
|Meet Alex Elman and her dog Hanley at Whole Foods|
I met Alex Elman at the South Beach Whole Foods Market to chat about her wine on Halloween where we were interrupted by Shreks, Teletubbies and princesses. Elman, by the way, was wearing devil horns, but we were barred from taking pictures by Whole Foods personnel. Elman, by the way, though that was hilarious.
Elman is on a tour of Whole Foods to showcase her Alex Elman wines. So far there are four varitetals - a Cahrdonnay, a Torrontes, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Malbec, all from Argentina. Two Italian wines will soon join the catalog, which are chosen by Elman for their flavor and price point.
Though not formally trained in wine, Elman's been in the business since graduating college. Starting out at Perrier-Jouet Champagne in France, she found herself still in the wine business even after moving back to the states. In 2009, Elman decided to create her own wine label and now travels the world with her seeing eye dog, Hanley, in search of the perfect wines to add to her brand.
Elman's wines are all priced at $14.99 and under and have been selected for their flavor, sustainability. They also must be true to their terrior - in other words, an Argentinian wine should invoke the land in which it comes from.
Come out to visit Alex and Hanley at their two Broward wine tastings. Alex will be at the Coral Springs Whole Foods tonight from 5 - 7 p.m. and at the Fort Lauderdale Whole Foods on Friday, November 4th from 1 - 3 p.m.
